About Beckmead College

Head's Welcome

Welcome to our website. I hope you find it both informative and interactive as well as an accurate reflection of the values and ethos of Beckmead College.

Beckmead College is a successful, vibrant SEN school, for students with Social Emotional and Mental Health. A place where the children’s needs come first.

We have a highly motivated, caring, committed and loving staff team. Whose primary aim is to promote equality, nurture and progress, alongside supporting the needs of every child.

I would like all students to enjoy their time at Beckmead College and the learning process to be fun, stimulating and a challenging journey into adulthood. We set high expectations and want to give our students every opportunity to become confident and independent learners.

Beckmead College has an excellent Curriculum Offer: Maths, English, Science, Art, ICT, Citizenship, Employability, PSHE and Sports/fitness. We also have a vocational department consisting of Carpentry, bricklaying, painting and decorating, multi skills and hospitality and catering. The students have the opportunity to work towards GCSEs, Functional Skills and Entry level qualifications.

All staff work closely with parents/carers to ensure this happens and recognise the importance of good communication between home, school and multi - agencies.

Beckmead College consists of two sites. The Tennison road campus and Alverston gardens campus, within our college sites we are fortunate to have

our own Multi use and game area, boxing ring, weights area/gym, modern vocational department and over 10 classrooms/nurture rooms equipped with interactive whiteboards.

We are fortunate to have close links with Beckmead School, Chaffinch Brook and Tharreo House to emphasise our belief in the importance of continuity of educational development.  Staff from both schools, meet to discuss and plan carefully for the transitionary process and there is a lot of sharing of ideas and planning in both the short, medium and the long term.

I feel privileged to be the Head teacher of Beckmead College, where my aim is to help the students reach their full potential, develop their social awareness and become positive citizens within society.

I actively welcome all parents/carers and professionals to the school.  We have lots of plans for the year ahead and we will keep you up to date with events and news as they happen.

I hope you find the information on our website useful, and that it will help us to form the beginning of a successful partnership in your child's education.
