About St Bartholomew's School

St Bartholomew's School was founded in 1466 and is proud of its ancient tradition.  It is now an 11-18 comprehensive school of over 1975 students with a Sixth Form of 625, serving Newbury and a wide area of West Berkshire and the Hampshire/Wiltshire borders, with modern buildings and outstanding facilities.

The school prides itself on its academic success and student progress is outstanding with the average progress score for the last 5 years being 0.64. This puts St Bartholomew’s in the top 5% of schools nationally. A level results are in line with national averages.

Teaching at St Bartholomew’s School is a rewarding experience. Our students are eager to learn, well behaved and proud of their school, and this was reflected in our last Ofsted inspection (November 2021) in which the school was judged as Outstanding in all areas. As a school, we are committed to ensuring that all the students and staff realise their full potential.  Students leave the school as good citizens and this is underpinned by an exceptional house system, personal development programme, leadership opportunities and a vast range of co-curricular activities.

The professional development of staff is a significant factor in ensuring that we achieve our aim of improving on our previous best and there are rich professional development opportunities at St Bartholomew’s (see CPD offer on our website under Work with Us) at all levels. Our induction and ECT programme for new staff is supportive and thorough.
