Hurworth House are recruiting for a cook to join their catering team! We are looking for passionate people, who can promote healthy eating and provide varied meals that meet the required care standards and contribute to the wellbeing of our Children and Young People. In this role, you will be responsible for the cooking within the home as well as the menu planning, shopping and adhering to set budgets within the home to deliver healthy, varied and nutritious diets for young people and the staff within the home. In addition, be responsible for the ensuring that the kitchen and associated areas are kept to a high standard of hygiene, including food and equipment storage.

Hurworth House School provides specialist education for boys and girls with SEMH difficulties and autism. Our staff are highly trained, skilled and experienced in supporting and educating our children, many of whom have a co-morbid diagnosis. The school is registered to provide education to up to 80 students aged between 5 and 19 years. We have a discrete primary provision and separate middle and upper schools.

A Level 3 qualification or equivalent is an essential requirement, as well as previous experience preparing and cooking meals gained within a professional kitchen environment along with the following characteristics:
Communication – Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.
Organisation –You will need to be confident and organised in updating menus, dietary requirements and reporting information that will be relevant to the care of our young people.
Attentive – No young person is the same so being attentive to understand them and identify areas where we can support is important.

Hurworth House is a specialist day school located near Darlington for boys and girls aged 7 to 19 years who have complex learning difficulties including behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD) and autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). The young people may also have challenging behaviour as a result of their difficulties.

Hurworth House can provide places for up to 40 young people. Placements are flexible, including extended day options, for 38 weeks of the year. Many of the young people referred to the school will have a Statement of Special Educational Need, although this is not an admission requirement.
