London East AP (LEAP) is a successful, high-achieving all through (Primary, KS3, KS4 and Post-16) alternative provision located in Tower Hamlets.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Child Protection Support Officer to support with the safeguarding of our vulnerable and at-risk students at our KS4/KS5 centre in Stepney Green.

This post involves supporting our Child Protection Coordinator and Social Worker, pastorally and academically both in and out of school, as well as supporting students with their school attendance and punctuality on a daily basis.

Our students have a variety of needs and require much support to ensure they attend school and are safeguarded in and out of school. The purpose of the role is to support pupils with their behaviour and learning needs, enabling them to participate fully in the school curriculum and ensuring that they make appropriate progress.

Our students need much more than excellent support practitioners with experience of and a preference for working with hard to reach, vulnerable children. They need staff who will care about their progress, practitioners who are able to support them with their personal development and wellbeing through education.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the LEAP aims, values and ethos and a proven track record of delivering excellent outcomes for students, including those with complex behavioural and SEND needs.

The Child Protection Support Officer will work with our pupils in a multitude of ways:

1. Supporting day to day attendance and punctuality to school, liaising with parents and carers, removing barriers to school attendance.

2. Advocating and supporting our pupils in and out of school with behaviour, wellbeing and learning. Working to improving the progress, academically and socially, of our pupils.

3. Supporting the DSL, our CP Coordinator, our social worker and SENDCO with the day to day safeguarding, information sharing and collaborating with teachers and support staff at LEAP to ensure all concerns are being picked up and processed immediately.

4. Liaising with colleagues and external agencies to engage in multi-agency work in order to ensure the effective safeguarding and child protection of some of the most challenging and hard to reach children in Tower Hamlets.

5. Supporting our senior leader in charge of our Inclusion and 6th Form groups with the day to day management of students with additional learning and social, emotional, mental health needs.

In order to be able to support our students successfully, candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills.

This post is offered, initially, as a one-year contract, term time only at £35,361 - £37,520 (actual annual salary).

Those wishing to be considered for the role should complete an application form and return to Tahmina Begum, HR Officer, by 12pm Friday, 27th September 2024: recruitment@londoneastap.org.uk
