Job overview

Are you looking for an exciting and rewarding challenge working with young people? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

The role

We have a great opportunity to appoint a new Cover Supervisor here at KAA. Working alongside two other cover supervisors you will play a fundamental role in supporting a mixed of planned and reactive cover requirements across a full range of subject areas.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and professional person who has the ability to effectively manage classroom behaviour, introduce and support cover work and ensure lesson outcomes are achieved in the absence of the classroom teacher across a full range of subjects. They will be able to help all students at KAA understand the value of their education, be able to facilitate a happy and productive classroom experience and be a positive role model to all students they work with.

Cover Supervisors at KAA can access the same outstanding training activities and support we offer to our subject specialist teachers, and there is great opportunity to take a full role in school life alongside the cover duties.

What you offer

You will first and foremost be a reliable person, with the organisation and communication skills required to effectively manage the cover provision at the academy and in doing so build positive relationships with heads of department, SLT and pastoral staff across the academy. You will be reflective and resilient in the face of setbacks, and be open to making improvements to the systems and processes around you.

Being familiar with an academy setting like ours – and the systems that govern it - is advantageous as it will allow you to navigate the unique challenges of our student demographic. This may have been achieved through other appointments in other cover supervisor roles, teaching, mentoring or work completed in other youth organisations. This role may also be suitable for qualified teachers – from any discipline – who are looking for a different professional challenge whilst retaining experience in the classroom.

What KAA offers

The successful candidate will be joining a team that is firmly committed to making KAA one of the best academies in the UK. The value of being part of a great team should never be underestimated. Being a member of KAA means you will be joining a supportive and talented group of staff who will invest in your professional development. This role will be excellent preparation for your future career, wherever that may take you, and previous colleagues in similar positions have gone on to take up roles in teaching and academia. Further information about the unique benefits and strengths of KAA can be found via our website.

Application process

The deadline for applications is 9am on Friday 6th December 2024. Interviews will take place soon after the deadline and where possible, candidates may be contacted ahead of the application deadline.

The candidate pack can be downloaded from this page and suitable candidates can contact our HR Manager, Shola Ope, at recruitment@kaa.org.uk with further questions.

About Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA)

KAA is an 11 – 18 academy situated in the heart of Notting Hill. We opened in brand new buildings in 2014 with just Year 7 and our facilities are second to none. We are now in our ninth year of operation and are a full school with 1,250 students in Years 7 to 13.

KAA has grown to become one of the top academies in the UK. Our Ofsted report grades us outstanding in all categories and describes standards as “exceptional”. In 2018 we were awarded TES Secondary School of the Year, and our 2022 Good Schools Guide review praises the “phenomenal” education students receive.

Why work for KAA?

Making a real difference

KAA pursues the very highest standards in education, both inside the classroom and beyond. We believe all children can achieve good results, irrespective of their prior attainment or experiences. 60% of our students qualify for the Pupil Premium, but with our help they can overcome the barriers that relative poverty can create. Our ethos, spirit and commitment to ever-extending student achievement make KAA an incredible place to work and learn.

Unrivalled professional development

KAA is a high-performing environment where staff at all levels feel challenged and supported to achieve their professional goals. As you will see in our Ofsted report, CPD in our school is of an “exceptional” standard and is an ongoing focus for all staff. There are few better places to develop your skills as a teacher than here with us in Kensington.

Being valued

We invest in our staff and offer unique benefits, including: 180 school days (as opposed to the 190 other schools have); 15 training days (as opposed to 5); free breakfast and lunch for all staff everyday; a two-week half term in October; free staff exercise and well-being sessions, and much more.
