Cover Supervisor

We are seeking to appoint a skilled, enthusiastic, dynamic and inspirational Cover Supervisor to assist the cover team and support our young people. Your main responsibility will be to provide cover for classes, supervising and delivering pre-prepared learning activities and cover whole classes in the absence of the teacher. You will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with a desire to promote and develop children's learning and confidence.

This is a very rewarding role where you will be able to develop strong working relationships with children. Graduates who have an interest in pursuing a future career in teaching or individuals who have previous experience of working with children will be particularly suited to this role. 

Job Type:  Permanent

Salary: NJC Grade D pay scale, points 8 – 14 £25,992 - £28,624 FTE per annum

Actual salary: £22,112 - £24,351 per annum (Starting point and salary will be determined on appointment, subject to experience). Negotiable if qualified teacher.

Hours of work:  36.5 hours per week x 39 weeks per year (Term time, plus 5 inset days)

Monday – Thursday 08:15 am – 4:00 pm & Friday 08:15 am – 3:15 pm

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To proactively support the learning of students in class by explaining, reading, clarifying work and encouraging successful completion of tasks
  • To ensure students are actively engaged and learning in cover lessons
  • To assist in College attendance record keeping by taking class registers
  • To ensure the security of classroom equipment and resources including ICT
  • To provide feedback to the appropriate teacher regarding the learning activities, conduct and response of the class
  • To carry out any administration relating to the lesson
  • Supervising whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers within the College
  • To promote positive behaviour and relationships, using effective strategies in a timely manner in accordance with College policies
  • Follow instructions for the lesson with regard to the conduct and content of the lesson, ensuring that the primary focus is on maintaining good order and keeping students on task
  • Support students by providing a supportive but well-disciplined environment which complies with the College’s policies and procedures
  • Be aware of any special needs of students within the class and respond accordingly
  • When not required to undertake any responsibility falling within the above, Cover Supervisors may be directed to provide additional support in the school, in accordance with the duties of other similarly or lower graded jobs for which they are suitably skilled/ qualified.
