Job Overview

The Deputy Principal Student Wellbeing oversees all aspects of student life and community involvement outside the classroom. They work closely with the Director, Deputy Director for Curriculum and Instruction and the Secondary Principal to create, implement, and manage initiatives that align with IAA's mission and vision, promoting student and community well-being and success. The Deputy Principal Student Wellbeing will develop and nurture student qualities of collaboration, determination, responsibility, integrity, duty, leadership, cultural heritage and acceptance all while committing to IAA's vision of inspiring, nourishing and celebrating our students.

Key Responsibilities

Programming:

· Develop and lead the whole school PSHE programming, while supporting grade level tutors and grade leaders in the implementation of the program.

·Oversee PSHE assignments and activities.

·Work with the Secondary Senior management Team to ensure the school's educational program delivers on the school's mission.

·As a member of the Student Support Team (SST), participate in Student of Concern and SST meetings to determine the need for academic/behavioral interventions to support student success.

·Collaborate with faculty, including the PR team, to coordinate class/grade-level excursions and activities.

· Support Creativity Activity Service (CAS) and Service As Action (SAA) advisors in the development of student service activities.

 Community Building:

· Demonstrate visibility and active leadership in day-to-day school life, including during the routines of arrival, dismissal and break times.

· Participate in school events beyond the regular school day.

· Foster a keen sense of community and spirit and promote the school's core values.

· With the Secondary Senior Management Team, collaborate and manage the transitional programs across the school divisions, including grade 5 to grade 6.

· Lead the Student Orientation Program and develop a team of Student Ambassadors to support this transition.

·Set schedules for and determine content for Student Celebrations/Assemblies with support from the Secondary Senior management Team.

· Liaise with the school's Pastoral Counsellors to support the social and emotional needs of students (e.g., friendship groups, decision-making, support skills, etc.).

Behavioral Guidance:

· Ensure school policies are understood and adhered to by all students.

· In alliance with Secondary Senior management Team, issue consequences for breaches of school policies and student code of conduct.

· Develop and apply a program of Positive Behavioural interventions and Restorative Practices to address behavior concerns and resolve conflict.

· Manage and work with the floor managers to ensure positive behaviour during and between lessons.

Student Leadership:

· Support and monitor the launch of student clubs, activities, and initiatives aligning with student interests.

· Promote opportunities for students'   leadership       development  as       Peer Helpers, Orientation Ambassadors, Eco-Council Leaders, etc.

Safety Guardian:

· With the Secondary Principal, act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to ensure the safeguarding of all students and compliance with the IAA Child Protection Policy.

General Responsibilities:

· Manage the student wellbeing budget, channeling resources to initiatives that underscore IAA's mission.

· Foster robust relationships with IAA families and the community, amplifying their role in our dynamic student wellbeing narrative.

· Ensure IAA's narrative on student wellbeing events and milestones is consistently and compellingly conveyed to all stakeholders.

· Ensure that teachers' responsibilities are assigned based on school need.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field. Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or Student Affairs is preferred.

Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in secondary education, student counseling, or student affairs. Experience in leadership or administrative roles preferred.
