THE POST

St Helen’s School is looking to appoint a permanent Full Time Director of Sport, to lead a strong and passionate team, starting in September 2025.

Given the importance of this role, the newly appointed whole school Director of Sport will report directly to a member of the Executive Team.

CORE PURPOSE

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping, leading, managing and reviewing the next phase of the strategic development of Sport and PE across a thriving GSA through school for girls aged 3-18.  

As Director of Sport, you will be responsible for critically evaluating our current provision and to develop the strategic direction of travel for sport and PE. across the whole school – Early Years (EYFS) to Year 13.

The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of the pathways for excellence from EYFS right through to the end of Year 13. As well as creating an elite programme for sport, the Director of Sport will have the passion, the drive and the determination for developing Sport across the whole school and will share our vision of inclusivity and ensure that “Sport for all” is realised every day.

The Director of Sport will work closely with the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams to formulate and deliver a highly ambitious vision for Sport and Physical Health. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of trends within the independent sector and a clear vision of how sport in schools should develop now and in the future.

The successful post holder will be fully committed to competitive sport across the whole school, establishing and maintaining opportunities for all pupils, to frequently represent St Helen’s locally, nationally and internationally In addition, the post holder will be accountable for managing the sports department and their delivery of a highly ambitious Co-Curricular and weekly fixtures programme, trips which will  include Sports tours and visits both in the UK and abroad.

The post holder will also work very closely with our Admissions, Marketing, Engagement and Outreach Teams to ensure that pupils from our partner and feeder schools are regularly attending festivals and events in school.

SELECTION PROCESS

Longlisted candidates will be invited to the school where they will be interviewed, be observed teaching a lesson, and have a tour of the school. During the selection day they will meet members of the Executive Team and/or Senior Leadership Team, the Heads of Curriculum PE and Co-Curricular Sport as well as the wider team. 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a second day where they will present their 3-year vision and strategy to members of the Executive Team.
