The British School of Bucharest is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Director of Studies to join our successful team from August 2025.

The Director of Studies would be a suitably qualified teacher with some previous management or leadership experience, whether in the UK or internationally, and who may move on to Headship in the future. With our comprehensive professional development, mentoring and coaching programmes in place and supported by an experienced team, this role would be suitable for a candidate seeking a senior leadership role for the first time.
The successful applicant will take the lead on further developing the legacy of a culture of academic achievement and quality assurance and will play a key role in supporting students in their studies across all ability ranges and across all Key Stages in Secondary, working closely with parents.
The Director of Studies will report to the Head of Secondary but will be a key member of the whole-school Senior Leadership Team and will also play a developmental role in helping to develop the school’s future strategy, as well as working closely with other departments within the school.
We are committed to offering a broad and balanced curriculum based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. We have been awarded BSO status via the Independent Schools Inspectorate and are also an accredited member of COBIS, as well as being a COBIS Training School.
Bucharest is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city and Romania ranks highly in desirable countries to live in Europe, offering a safe environment, as well as a relatively inexpensive and yet high standard of living. There are opportunities nearby to ski and explore the countryside, as well as travel around the Balkans and Central Europe.
The Director of Studies will be keen to develop themselves professionally and personally, as well as encouraging and providing opportunities for others to do so. The ability to build and lead effective and harmonious teams, as well as possessing a high level of personal and professional administrative organisation will be essential, whilst in the process, developing personal leadership and developing and inspiring future leadership in others. The Director of Studies will work with drive, vision and a sense of purpose. Being internationally sympathetic and understanding of different cultures, the successful candidate will possess the innate ability to overcome obstacles with resilience and unassailable optimism.
