Stamford School is seeking to recruit a Duty Manager to join its Sport and Leisure team. We are looking for an individual who enjoys working to a high standard and has a passion for providing excellent sports facilities. You will have a passion for sport, with a keen interest in swimming and be willing to work as part of a team to provide access to excellent facilities at all times.

You will ensure that the facility is running effectively and that all of the daily/weekly/monthly/seasonal checks are undertaken and that the pool is safe for use.

You will have a good level of experience in the leisure industry, with previous experience in swimming pools, and be National Pool Lifeguard qualified and Pool Plant Operator qualified. Candidates will be considered without these qualifications, but will be required to complete and pass them within the first 6-months of employment as an essential criterial to perform the duties of the role. The school will sponsor these courses. You should however have experience of, and a passion for, swimming and swimming education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the management of the pools, including the general observation of bathers, completing pool plant and water quality checks.
  • Support the day-to-day supervision of staff, dealing with immediate operational issues arising from absences, recording attendance, ensuring that the facilities have appropriate staffing for safe operational activity.
  • To be responsible for the security of the facility whilst on duty, including undertaking opening and closing of the facilities.
  • To ensure building and plant conditions are maintained within the facility and carried out in accordance with the Normal Operating Procedures, Emergency Action Plan and Health & Safety legislation.
  • To assist in the organisation and supervision of the programme of activities, our users and equipment.
  • To report maintenance requirements as necessary to the maintenance team or equipment supplies with the service contract ensuring these are logged and completed with minimum disruption to the service.
  • To ensure efficient operation of the swimming pool and efficient operation of the swimming pool filtration plant, back washing and pool water testing for water purification.
  • Support the coordination of Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly compliance checks across the leisure facilities, checking works completed, managing any remedial actions and ensuring all documentation is in place.
  • To attend mandatory staff training sessions and comply with all legislative Health & Safety at Work requirements.
  • Any other duties as might reasonably be expected or requested by the line manager.

Desired Criteria

  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Level 2 Swim Teacher.
  • Level 2 Fitness.
  • Previous experience of working within a school environment.

Essential Criteria

  • Good Standard of Education.
  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualified*
  • Pool Plant Operators qualification*
  • Good understanding of swimming pool rules, first aid and health & safety.
  • Experience of leisure management or supervision.
  • Experience of working in customer focused environment.
  • Knowledge of fire safety and Legionella standards and requirements.
  • Reasonable IT skills, including the ability to use mobile Apps and PC.
  • Knowledge of pool equipment and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of lifesaving methods and procedure.
  • Able to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Self-motivation and good initiative.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good timekeeping.
  • Ability to work a shift system including evenings and weekends.

*Candidates will be considered without this qualification, but will be required to complete and pass it within the first 6-months of employment as an essential criteria to perform the duties of the role. The school will sponsor these courses.

The role is for 40 hours a week, over 5 days, working on a rota. There is a requirement for weekend work on a 1 in 3 Saturday morning to support swimming lessons. We can offer an annual salary of £26,000 - £28,000, dependent on experience.
