General Assistant – Catering 

We are committed to providing an excellent catering service to our students and staff.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team.


General Assistant – 16.5 HOURS per week.


The hours will be Monday to Friday 05:45 – 09:00. Shift patterns may be altered depending on service needs, Monday to Friday during term time.


Duties include assisting with the preparation of food, serving students, cleaning the dining hall, moving dining furniture, till operator, washing up, cleaning and general kitchen duties.


Previous experience desirable, but training will be given. Candidates must be willing to undertake the Level 2 Food Safety and any other relevant training.

About King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School for Boys

Handsworth Grammar School (HGS) is voluntary aided, selective grammar school in Handsworth, Birmingham. The school admits boys from the age of 11-18 and, since 1997, girls into its sixth form. Founded in 1862, it the oldest surviving selective school in Birmingham.

Lessons focus on both learning habits as well as learning the content of courses and topics. The ten learning habits Handsworth Grammar School aims to build include collaborating, questioning, listening, planning and distillation.

A new £1.6 million sixth form centre, offering students their own bespoke area, is linked to the Lodge, where there is a one-stop shop for careers advice and guidance and examinations advice and guidance.
