About the School
William Ellis School is a thriving, voluntary aided, non-denominational, inclusive comprehensive boys’ school serving the educational needs of boys from the ages of 11 to 18. It is an attractive site on the edge of Hampstead Heath with excellent access to Central London. It is a neighbourhood of great social and cultural diversity, and this diversity is very well represented at William Ellis.
The school is committed to nurturing successful students and good citizens through strong relationships in line with the school motto, “rather use than fame”. The school is part of the longest established and most successful mixed sixth form consortium in London, LaSWAP, which enables our students to access a wide range of subject expertise. We provide excellent professional opportunities for staff and are part of the Camden family of schools.
About the role
William Ellis School seeks a highly motivated and passionate individual who will take on this exciting opportunity to bring all the levels of our outdoor education program under the leadership of a Head of Outdoor Education. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, vision, resilience, excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to the aims and values of William Ellis School. You would join a well-established team of specialist PE teachers, and a strong network of subject specialists across Camden LA. The school has excellent facilities given its context and location: a large and well-equipped sports hall, outdoor hard space and direct access to Hampstead Heath, with its grass pitches and athletics track.
Outdoor education is highly valued at William Ellis by the students, teachers and families alike. With annual residential trips for Key Stage 3 and around 50% of our Year 10 students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award, and many progressing to Silver and Gold, we have a very established outdoor education programme. William Ellis boasts a rich history of bringing outdoor education opportunities to all students.
Our vision is to equip the students with the skills needed to become a well-rounded young adult. That’s why we are looking to build on our programmes and expand our reach to our LASWAP partners and surrounding schools.
With unlimited access to our own outdoor education centre, The Mill in Forrest Green near Dorking, the Head of Adventure would have a wide range of resources to develop what is already a successful outdoor education programme.
The successful candidate will be:
· Passionate and skilled in outdoor adventure, and enthusiastic to develop this in others
· Able to work flexibly and adaptably in a school environment
· A self-starter who can act on initiative, and also able to succeed working as part of a team
· Committed to developing the aspirations and life chances of all young people, regardless of their backgrounds
If you are seeking a challenging and highly rewarding position, enriching the lives of students and the local community, we look forward to hearing from you.
Application packs can be downloaded from the school website www.williamellis.camden.sch.uk, emailing the HR team HR@Williamellis.camden.sch.uk or calling the school office on 020 7267 9346
