Job overview

Tes is supporting the appointment of a Head of Art & Design to join a High School based in Merton.

The role

The High School is looking for a dynamic and innovative teacher to provide inspirational leadership to their Art Department.

As Head of Art and Design, you will contribute to the strategic direction and development of the department, preparing a plan that will ensure the department continues to be innovative, creative, successful and ambitious, inspiring a love of the subject in their students.

You will also lead and manage department staff, promoting excellence in teaching and learning that will help students to develop their potential within Art and Design. This role will be key to ensuring that they deliver a high quality academic and creative experience to all students within a safe, well-supported, well-resourced and well-looked after environment.

You will be a positive and enthusiastic teacher, with excellent subject knowledge in Art and Design (especially in Fine Art). You will possess previous experience of teaching Art from KS3-KS5, including GCSE and A Level. Strong leadership, self-management and decision-making skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with others.

The Art and Design Department

The school's thriving Art and Design Department has an excellent reputation for delivering a progressively challenging, stimulating and fun art education throughout the school. The department consists of three full-time teachers, one part-time teacher and a technician, as well as a fixed-term PT Digital Assistant.

They occupy the top floor of the STEAM Tower, which comprises three studios, printmaking facilities, a departmental office and resources rooms, as well as a wonderful central library/gallery area.

About the School

The High School has been educating girls to go out into the world and make a difference. Their acclaimed pastoral programme GROW, enriching co-curricular opportunities, character-forging partnerships and their 'playful scholarship' approach to academic life make for a compelling environment where every individual can flourish and be herself. Located in the heart of Wimbledon, they are less than 20 minutes from central London.

Benefits

They can offer a variety of benefits, such as:

  • Competitive salaries and pay progression
  • Access to extensive professional development opportunities
  • Training grants for qualifications
  • Free life assurance benefit
  • A discount of up to 50% on fees for children
  • Interest free loans for training, computer purchase loans and travel season ticket loans
