Job overview

Head of Computer Science

Salary: ULT Teachers’ Pay Scale plus TLR

Worried what you will be asked at interview?

Well don’t be, as you will get these in advance of the day so you can show us your ‘best self’.

Worried about where to park on your interview day?

Well don’t be, as you will get a parking space reserved for you on your interview day and hopefully when you visit.

Want a Costa Coffee from our in-house Costa Café in school?

Yes, that’s right we have a Costa Café with one free coffee each week for every member of staff.

Want a morning or afternoon free from teaching so you can pick up the kids, go to the gym, walk the dog, or just relax?

Well come and join, this is just one of many wellbeing initiatives we have at the school.

We are seeking to appoint a bright, tenacious and ambitious individual to join us from September 2025 as Head of Computer Science. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher of Computer Science and have a strong desire to assist other teachers in the classroom. You will also lead on and coordinate e-safety. You will be working in a department that is committed to continually raising standards. As the Head of Computing, you will help support and ensure outstanding progress for all students in the school. We can offer a relocation package if required.

We reserve the right to close the vacancy earlier than the published end date should a suitable candidate apply.

Northampton Academy is a transformational comprehensive and non-selective school of approximately 1700 students, serving a diverse community. We are proud to have been judged ‘Outstanding' by Ofsted in March 2023. Our values, which underpin every decision we take, are Respect, Determination, Ambition, Integrity and Tolerance. We have a comprehensive student character-building programme, which has been nationally recognised through the Character Kitemark Plus that was awarded in November 2021.

The leadership of the academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons. To this end, the student behaviour system is clear, simple and easy to administer in lessons. If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf. Teachers at the academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here. In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:

·       No unannounced observations

·       No lesson grading

·       3 extra INSET days per year for joint team planning

·       A feedback and recognition policy that lets teachers decide the best feedback mechanism for their own classes, rather than having this prescribed centrally

·       Genuine Flexi-working environment where all staff have the option of either a late start or early finish one day per week

·       Free access to on-site high-quality gym

Northampton Academy is committed to equal opportunities and to the protection and safety of all students and adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share these commitments.

The post will be subject to an enhanced DBS Disclosure.

For more information or a confidential chat about this role, please contact Emma Tustin-Reeves, Assistant Principal – e.tustin@northampton-academy.org

Closing date: Thursday 30th January 2025 at 12pm
