We are looking to appoint an experienced Head of Design Technology Department to join our team in August 2025. The successful candidate will be working alongside other experienced team members to promote the strategic vision of the school and will be capable of teaching across all secondary Key Stages and up to A Level.

Key responsibilities:

Curriculum Development

Create and maintain a progressive, balanced D&T curriculum that aligns with national standards, school goals, and industry advancements.

Departmental Leadership

Inspire and manage a team of teachers, fostering high-quality teaching through collaboration, regular meetings, and shared best practices.

Policy and Planning

Develop departmental policies for teaching, assessment, and health & safety, while contributing to school-wide initiatives.

Quality Teaching and Learning

Monitor and improve teaching standards, ensuring inclusion, differentiation, and effective student progress tracking.

Resource and Operational Management

Manage budgets, update technology and facilities, ensure health & safety compliance, and oversee effective timetabling and staffing.

Staff Development

Support professional growth through mentoring, CPD, and performance reviews, while guiding ECTs and staff toward leadership roles.

Whole-School Contribution

Collaborate with other departments, engage parents and the community, and represent the department at leadership and school events.

Our ideal candidate will have:

● Bachelor’s degree in Education or BA with PGCE as a minimum requirement. 

● Qualified DT Teacher with at least 5 years of experience in delivering the National Curriculum for England to A level students.

● Committed professionals who are dedicated to raising standards in alignment with the

schools vision, mission and values.

● Outstanding practitioners with the ability to deliver innovative lessons built on current

pedagogical thinking and forward-thing initiatives.

● Teachers with a natural desire to learn, contribute to and participate in the schools

Professional Learning Community.

● Skilled at using digital tools to ensure that learning is enriched and relevant so as to

complement the schools ‘Apple Distinguished School’ status.

● A professional who works collaboratively both within the immediate team and across the

wider school community.

Initial long list interviews will be conducted via Zoom. Candidates who successfully reach the short-list will be asked to complete a task relevant to the role with a full interview with key leaders. Where possible, this will be in-person.
