Job overview

Are you passionate about Geography and ready to inspire the next generation of geographers? We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Head of Geography to lead our department and make a lasting impact on our students’ educational journey.

As the Head of Geography, you will be the driving force behind our Geography department, providing professional leadership and management to our dedicated team of teachers. Your mission will be to inspire curiosity about the world, cultivate a deep understanding of our planet and empower students to think critically about their role in a global community. You will ensure that every student achieves positive, aspirational outcomes by effectively implementing the school’s policies and development priorities.

You will guide and motivate our Geography teachers to deliver engaging and high-quality lessons that captivate students’ interest both within and beyond the curriculum. By setting rigorous targets and high standards, you will support the development and growth of the subject, ensuring all students excel through GCSE and A Level. Continuously monitoring and enhancing all aspects of Geography teaching, you will foster a love for the subject and encourage pupils to explore the world around them.

We offer a supportive and collaborative environment where your ideas and initiatives are valued, opportunities for professional development and career progression and the chance to make a real difference in the lives of our students and inspire them to achieve their best.

If you are an enthusiastic and dedicated educator with a passion for Geography, we would love to hear from you.

Embley is a leading independent selective day and boarding school for over 680 children aged 2 to 18 (boarding from Year 7) on the edge of the New Forest National Park, situated on a stunning 130-acre campus in the beautiful Hampshire countryside.

Embley is a vibrant community where people matter, results count and where a passion for excellence drives everything we do. Our core purpose is to have a positive impact in the world through the success of our students and staff. The world is challenging and changing and our task is to ensure that every young person leaves Embley with the tools to make progress a reality.

There are three core guiding principles to all that we do:

Academic ambition - We have unlimited ambition for every child at Embley, where they are able to achieve their best.

Belief - We believe in the principles that drive our school. We are hungry and humble: humble enough to pause and reflect, hungry enough to act.

Compassion - We are a community that cares. The world needs more compassion and kindness at its heart, and that begins at schools like ours where we help children appreciate that the world does not stop at the end of our own experiences. It is through compassion and kindness that we achieve amazing things.

Embley has recently been positioned in the top 1% of schools nationally for value added and our recognitions include:

  • ‘Excellent’ in all areas for student achievement and personal development - ISI Educational Quality with Focused Compliance Inspection – October 2022
  • Apple Distinguished School Status – 2021-2024
  • TES Senior School of the Year Award 2021 (shortlisted)
  • TES Best Use of Technology Award 2020 (shortlisted)
  • Independent School of the Year 2021 Award – Development Award for an Outstanding Fundraising Achievement (finalist)

This an exciting time to join the team at Embley. Student numbers have grown in recent years, driving the requirement to expand and develop the teaching and support team. If you share our ambition of providing the very best school experience for students while creating an excellent workplace for staff, and you are seeking an exciting, challenging and rewarding career, we encourage you to apply for this role.
