Job overview

Head of Internal Exclusion

Required for January 2025: Head of Internal Exclusion at Marple Hall School (start date negotiable for the right candidate)

37 hours per week permanent, term time plus 3 weeks

Salary: SO1: £33,366- £37,938 pro rata (actual £30,458 – £34,632)

 About this role:

This is a new and exciting opportunity for a passionate member of staff, keen to work with students who are not getting it right in school. As this role is a new addition to the pastoral structure at Marple Hall, the right candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with senior Pastoral Leaders to develop the ethos of the room and the structure and processes within it.

The Internal Exclusion room will house approximately 16 students from Year 7-11. Some of these places will be pre-booked a day in advance due to poor behaviour and some places will be reserved for those students who need to be withdrawn from lessons for a period of time in the moment and on the day.

Working with a member of staff, you will be able to ensure that students are engaging with the work that has been set by class teachers. You will want to lead some sessions with individuals or small groups to unpick reasons for their behaviour and ascertain what are the barriers to their success in school in order to help students identify strategies to facilitate their own improvement.

Working as part of a large and extremely strong pastoral team, you will liaise with the year teams, attendance team, the Safeguarding Lead and the Wellbeing Team in order to ensure that information is shared and received. There is much collaboration among the team and a great team spirit. Our staff are helpful and supportive and very much looking forward to the newest addition to the team.

You will also work closely with the two Pastoral Assistant Headteachers in charge of Key Stages 3 and 4 and with a Deputy Headteacher

Closing date: Monday 2nd December 9am

At Marple Hall School our overall aim is to become a first-rate comprehensive school in which all learners are able to reach their potential personally, socially and academically. We are an inclusive school and value the contribution made by students, staff, Governors, parents and members of the local community.

Our commitment to collaborative learning can be summed up with the phrase ‘Our Community -  Our Future’.Marple Hall is a thriving and successful 11-16 school providing a caring, nurturing environment for all of our learners.  I know that I speak for the Governors, Staff and students when I say that we are proud of the achievements of our school and that we welcome the opportunity to work with and learn from all of those who share our commitment to success.

Our school's focus on learning is the driving force behind all that we do and students experience a diverse and challenging curriculum, inside and outside the school, providing opportunities for them to continue to excel as members of our school and wider community. We make no apologies for having high expectations and demanding high standards of both students and staff, knowing that this will enable all our learners to succeed and benefit from the many opportunities we offer.

We aim to ensure that each student feels happy and challenged and engender a genuine appreciation of traditional standards of courtesy, respect for one another and our different beliefs, and the ambition to do well by working hard.

The Marple Hall Spirit
In 2016 Students, staff, governors and parents created a set of five qualities that we expect all members of our community to show on a daily basis. The five qualities are collectively known as the Marple Hall Spirit.
