Wimbledon Common Prep School (WCPS) is a pre-preparatory school for 175 boys aged 4–7 years. We provide a well-structured education that aims to instil a love of learning in a friendly, welcoming, and attractive environment.

We wish to appoint a well-qualified graduate teacher to take up the post of part-time Head of Music (3 days per week) from January 2025 or April 2025. This role offers excellent opportunities for the teaching of music, and the encouragement of musical gifts, across the age range from 4 to 7.

Music at WCPS

All pupils receive a weekly class music lessons of 40 minutes. Pupils follow a Scheme of Work based on the curriculum of the Voices Foundation. This work is supplemented by a progressive programme of becoming familiar with the orchestra through listening to classical music, concerti, opera, ballet and contemporary compositions. Children are taught music theory and engage in practical music-making and singing.

Extra-Curricular Music

The school is committed to high-quality performance experiences for the boys. Each December the whole school perform in a costumed musical Christmas Church Service. Each Summer term Year perform and costumed and staged musical. There are additional opportunities to perform during class assemblies, Easter and Harvest Celebrations, and informal music concerts.
