This post provides an exciting career opportunity for an ambitious and inspirational candidate who would like to further develop their career as part of our dynamic and highly effective teaching and learning team. They must have a relentless drive for the highest standards of learning and achievement. The successful candidate will join our staff team who are at the cutting edge of pedagogical thinking. We are looking for someone who has a passion for teaching PE, who will be an effective leader of this strong team, and who will look to further increase our excellent PE curriculum.

The successful candidate will have excellent subject knowledge, strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire our pupils and staff with engaging teaching and leadership. The school places great emphasis on learning and achievement and, as such, the successful candidate will have a track record of excellent teaching and examination results alongside an ability to mentor, coach and lead others. We are dedicated to offering the right candidate professional development to enable them to achieve excellence. We provide a highly supportive environment with opportunities to develop as an education practitioner and leader. We offer coaching, peer support and opportunities to work with local subject networks to support new middle leaders and help them develop their leadership skills.

 The successful candidate will:

  • be an excellent teacher of PE, have fantastic subject knowledge and be passionate about helping all students, including the most able, appreciate PE and understand how to succeed in the subject;
  • be passionate about PE and engaging students both in lessons and in extra-curricular opportunities;
  • have a passion for learning and teaching, and be committed to continuous learning and professional development and responsive to feedback;
  •  have the highest expectations of themselves and of the behaviour and achievement of students;
  • be committed to developing the highly effective teaching and learning across the school through coaching, mentoring and contributing to high quality CPD;
  • be a team player and able to lead a strong and dynamic PE team;
  • be ambitious and committed to ongoing professional development.

Testbourne Community School, an 11-16 comprehensive school with an extremely able cohort, is an Outstanding School (Ofsted 2010) which provides a forward thinking, outward looking and vibrant learning environment. We know that the life chances of our pupils are determined by inspirational teachers. We are working together to continually raise expectations, improve our practice and raise standards of students’ achievements.

In 2021, our TAG Attainment 8 score was 56.43 and 67% achieved a grade 5+ in English and Maths. 84% of students achieved 4+ in English and Maths which is a fantastic achievement.

The school serves the town of Whitchurch and the surrounding area and is within easy reach of Winchester, Newbury, Basingstoke and Southampton with good transport links to the M3 and A34.

Situated on the River Test and surrounded by picturesque rolling countryside, Whitchurch is Hampshire’s smallest town.   Much of this charming town is a conservation area and contains many listed and notable buildings.  It is also host to Whitchurch Silk Mill, a 19th century water mill which is one of Hampshire's hidden gems.
