This is a fantastic opportunity for a well-qualified and experienced graduate to lead and manage the Religious Studies Department at Loughborough Grammar School, an independent school for boys ages 10 to 18 years rated ‘excellent in all areas’ by ISI in our last inspection.

The Head of Religious Studies at Loughborough Grammar School will oversee a vibrant, dynamic department and a curriculum that speaks to every pupil within the school. An outstanding classroom practitioner, the successful candidate will inspire pupils and colleagues alike with their passion for the subject and will champion their department within and beyond the school.

Loughborough Grammar School delivers an academic experience that allows our boys to achieve excellence in a School that builds strong relationships between boys and staff and recognises the value of fun in learning. The Head of Religious Studies supports this vision and works to promote the highest academic standards in the department. They believe in championing boys’ education by providing academic opportunities, both within the curriculum and beyond the curriculum, to help the boys to become world ready.

A budding strategic thinker, they will contribute actively to heads of department meetings and to wider discussions about the development of the school and, in due course, they are likely to aspire to a senior leadership role. Effective relationships at all levels are key to this role, as is the ability to lead, manage and coach others so that they fulfil their potential, whether as a pupil or as a teacher.

The successful candidate will lead the teaching of Religious Studies across Years 6 to 9, GCSE Religious Studies (AQA Route A), A Level Religious Studies (OCR: Christianity, Philosophy and Ethics) and Oxbridge tuition. As a Religious Studies specialist, the successful candidate is also expected to work closely and proactively with the Director of Personal Develop and Pastoral Committee on the planning and delivery of the PSHE (inc. Loughborough Grammar School

Loughborough Grammar School is a leading independent day school with a small boarding element. The School provides education to boys aged 10–18 and is one of the four Loughborough Schools Foundation. Staff benefit from reduced fees for their children in any of the four schools. The School is situated in the university town of Loughborough in the East Midlands: one of the rare regions in England where property prices remain at an affordable level for teachers and young families.

This is a vibrant school for intellectually curious pupils. With an abundance of first-class facilities and outstanding teaching staff, we deliver a high quality holistic education, where the co-curricular is valued alongside academic achievements.

Objective: our objective is to be the school of first-choice for boys throughout the East Midlands. Our aims are that pupils become:

• intellectually curious lifelong learners with the confidence to be innovative

• healthy young men with a sense of perspective, whose emotional wellbeing is assured through development of their self-esteem

• independently-minded young adults who demonstrate good judgement in their decisions and integrity in their relationships with other people

• engaged citizens with a healthy respect for others and their differences

• self-disciplined, adaptable leaders and team players, who embrace challenge and change

Ethos and Religion:

Although the school is proud of its Christian heritage dating back to 1495, Loughborough Grammar School welcomes pupils from all faiths (and of none) and makes provision for their spiritual welfare. The ‘spirit’ of Loughborough Grammar School is nurtured by fostering good relationships between all members of the community based on the core values of mutual respect, kindness and the Golden Rule of treating others as we would like to be treated ourselves.

The acquisition of a moral compass, so dear to our founders five centuries ago, remains of fundamental importance. However, we are also determined to offer boys a thoroughly modern learning experience, benefitting from first-class facilities and an understanding of the importance of an all-round education which helps to develop the emotional intelligence required to make a success of their personal and professional lives.
