Job overview

We are looking for a well qualified senior leader to run a twelve bed CAMHS Hospital School. Emerald Place school is set within a new specialist General Adolescent Unit. (GAU) situated about three miles from Gatwick Airport.

You will be running the school which will have up to twelve pupils, who will vary in ages from 12 to 18. The pupils who are in hospital ideally for around 90 days require an education provision. Our service is run by Elysium Healthcare and at this time have six CAMHS services each with a school attached, rated GOOD or Outstanding by Ofsted.

The patients admitted to Emerald Place will have had some form of trauma in their lives which has necessitated a stay in a CAMHS psychiatric service whilst undergoing treatment for their Mental Heath Issues. Emerald place is the last step in their journey, helping them to get ready for discharge back to home, school, college and or support within the community.

Emerald Place is a new service opened this year and under the current Head, the school has recently gone through the Ofsted registration process. The present Headteacher is moving within the organisation to run a slightly larger CAMHS hospital school.

You should be an outgoing and energetic individual who values the education we provide for those in our care. It is our vision that our pupils are not disadvantaged because of their hospital stay. To that end, Elysium ensure everything possible is provided in order that we are able to ensure this happens. You will be supported by a full time Deputy Headteacher and a small number of specialist teachers and the hospital staff. You will also be supported by the Headteachers from the other units who have a wealth of experience that can be drawn upon and the Head of Education for Elysium.

All our schools are registered as independent schools with the DfE and thus have to comply with the DfE Independent Schools Standards. This allows us to make a charge to the Local Authorities for their pupils, which fund the education provision.

All our schools are well resourced, pupils and teachers have new laptops for their use. Elysium are very good at making sure the schools are well staffed and looked after with well-being initiatives. You will be entitled to free lunches and many other benefits that Elysium offers its employees. We run like most mainstream schools, with the same term dates as the local LA schools.

This is a rare and unique opportunity to take on a leadership responsibility and help shape a brand new service. Most of the ground work has been put in place already and we are looking for someone to take this to the next level and help us achieve a "GOOD" at the forthcoming Ofsted inspection.

Ideally you will have worked in the Special School sector and certainly had some senior leadership experience. Be hardworking and energetic leader able to create a culture where those in our care can thrive and achieve.

Elysium CAMHS hospitals are very successful in helping the young people in our care transition back into education whether school or college and home. If you feel you can make a difference for those in our care and want to help form the culture in a new school service we are anxious to hear from you.

We welcome any visits to the school. If you have any questions please don't hesitate calling the Head of Education Nick Rose on 07808 730817
