Job overview

An exciting opportunity to lead a brilliant school!

St Mary and All Saints CE Primary school wishes to appoint an inspiring and experienced Headteacher with strong values, a clear vision for the school, and a passion for learning. The school is at an important and exciting time on its journey. We have done all the hard work to achieve well in our forthcoming Ofsted inspection, but there is a great deal still to do. We are seeking the right person to lead us forward, someone who is ambitious for every child, has a genuine commitment to their wellbeing, and who will relish having a real impact on the school.

St Mary’s focuses on the whole child, and first and foremost, we are looking for someone who cares about every aspect of a child’s learning and development. We want a leader who will foster confidence, delight and an eagerness to learn. They will challenge our children and promote academic excellence, nurture practical and creative skills, and develop kindness, empathy and emotional intelligence in equal measure, reflecting our Christian values of wisdom, creativity and love.

Our school has excellent results, fantastic and well maintained facilities, a committed and skilled staff, engaged and loyal parents, and most importantly, we have wonderful children. We have responded quickly and positively to Ofsted feedback and take pride in the way we have developed our curriculum, our new SEND structure and the effectiveness of our new Phonics system, as well as our new, committed and well-trained Board of Governors. Above all, we value our exceptional team of dedicated teaching and support staff, and our happy, resilient children.

The governors are extremely proud of what St Mary’s has achieved and are ambitious for its future. There are challenges ahead, as well as real opportunities to positively impact our community. Here are just a few:

·      How can we better promote our achievements, values and culture locally and ensure we are always the first choice school for everyone in our community?

·      Have we adopted the right leadership structure to make the most of our talented pool of senior teachers?

·     Can we streamline or reshape some of our current systems and embrace new technologies to support staff wellbeing and ensure time is used as effectively as possible to support pupil progress?

·   How can we further develop a culture of openness, that supports risk taking, a growth mindset and creativity in education? What additional opportunities are there to actively engage with new research and collaborate with other educational settings?

·    Can we further enrich our curriculum by developing children's cultural capital and enhancing our curriculum enrichment programme, so that underserved or disadvantaged groups, as well as those working at greater depth, benefit?

·      How can we creatively and cost-effectively support our increasing number of SEND pupils?

·      Are we using our resources wisely to give every child the opportunity to thrive?

We are looking for a leader who can confidently address and prioritise challenges, recognise opportunities to improve, and bring our hardworking staff along with them.

Our school is underpinned by our Christian values, and these are central to how we operate. We are not, however, limiting our search to those openly of the Christian faith, rather to appoint a Headteacher who embraces and upholds our values and vision, and empowers all our pupils to cultivate their spiritual, intellectual, physical and creative potential.

We look forward to sharing more about ourselves with you, and warmly welcome candidates to come and visit the school to see us in action. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a brilliant school and to make a real impact on the lives of its pupils and its staff.

St Mary & All Saints is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children and young people, so we expect all staff and volunteers, as well as those who work on the premises, to share this commitment. As part of our safeguarding commitment, appointment to any post is subject to receipt of satisfactory references, medical clearance to include the ability to participate in Physical Intervention and a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, as well as evidence of the right to live and work in the United Kingdom. We will also carry out an online search on candidates to help identify any incidents or issues that are publicly available online.
