Job overview

Residential Post - Maternity Cover - 6 Months, April - October 2025 *

The Housemistress/Master (HsM) holds an exciting and challenging post within the framework of an outstanding and highly motivated pastoral team. They should be a skilled practitioner with experience in a residential setting who has the capacity to motivate and guide both staff and pupils, working and living in one of our smaller fourth form boarding houses (ages 12-13). Boarding arrangements are structured horizontally with pupils living in their own year groups. The quality of the care and support pupils receive from the House Staff is of critical importance to the school’s success and to the happiness and future success of our students.

This post is offered as a teaching or non-teaching position depending on the successful candidate’s skill-set.  Residential teaching staff are expected to teach 10 periods per week, while a non-teaching HsM will offer alternative daytime duties such as health or wellbeing support, co-curricular activities, sport or administration.

The salary scale for this role will depend on experience, starting from £27,000 - £52,500.  It is a full-time contract (paid for 52 weeks of the year), working 35 term time weeks per year, with all school holiday weeks recognised as annual leave.

A HsM’s work is not of a nature which lends itself to the rigid definition of hours.  They act as one half of the full-time residential House team on a rota system that covers the Boarding House, 7 days per week, 24 hours per day during term time, with the assistance of additional daytime pastoral staff.

* We anticipate the contract duration will be 6 months (mid April to mid October 2025), subject to an earlier or later return to work by the in-post Housemistress.

We look forward to receiving applications from teaching or non-teaching candidates who are ready to embrace the full and varied life of a busy boarding school; caring for, guiding and supporting our students.
