We are currently looking for a HR Business Partner to join our HR team and contribute to our mission to make Oldham College the best place to learn and work. Oldham College employs around 650 dedicated colleagues across a range of teaching and professional support roles.  We all share the same commitment to help our 4000 students unlock their full potential.

The Role

This newly created role will support our team to deliver a high-performing customer-focused HR service. The successful candidate will provide professional expertise in relation to all people related matters and ensure line managers are equipped to effectively manage, through the provision of advice, support and guidance.

The Candidate:

To succeed at the College, you will need: -

  • Excellent customer relationship / partnering skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritise and effectively deliver HR change projects in a busy and demanding environment.
  • Strong employment law knowledge and the ability to manage complex and contentious employee relations matters.
  • A strong commitment to continuous improvement and resilience to enable you to implement HR service improvements whilst still delivering the day job.

The Package:

Once appointed as our HR Business Partner, you will benefit from: -

  • Supportive work environment with family friendly policies and an emphasis on ongoing professional development.
  • Generous holiday entitlement (32 days annual leave per year based on full-time, plus statutory bank holidays and additional efficiency days/ Christmas Closure).
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme with a 21% Employer Contribution plus flexibility to reduce your contributions if you wish (includes valuable life cover).
  • Many employee benefits including access to a wide-ranging discount scheme, salary sacrifice car scheme, on-site nursery, salon and more.

Next Steps:

We will do everything we can to support you during your application. If you need us to make any adjustments to our recruitment process, speak to our HR team who will be happy to advise. Alternatively, if you would like to arrange an informal chat – please email Claire and provide your contact details / availability.

To apply, please submit your application by no later than midday on Monday 30th September 2024.

We anticipate that interviews will be held on Tuesday 8th October 2024.

Inclusivity:

We are committed to inclusion which is reflected across our diverse student body.  However, we still have work to do to ensure that our talented workforce fully reflects the diversity of our wider community. We encourage people from all sections of our community to apply to join our team including those from ethnic minority backgrounds which are currently underrepresented.

When you apply for a role, we'll ask you for some equality data. Your answers are kept strictly confidential at all times by HR. The data we collect helps us to identify any disproportionate outcomes for applicants and to target our positive actions that will address them.

We recognise that everybody has a life outside work; we’re happy to discuss flexible working with applicants.   Although we can’t promise that we will be able to give you exactly what you want, we can promise that we will carefully consider your request and we certainly won’t judge you for asking.

Safeguarding:

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people; we expect all applicants to share in this commitment.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children and/or vulnerable adults. If you receive an offer of employment from us, this will be conditional upon satisfactory completion of mandatory pre-employment checks (including an Enhanced DBS disclosure with children’s barred list check).

Oldham College was established in 1893 following a donation from the Platt family who were famously manufacturers of textile machinery. Their generosity led to the institution of the school for art and science in Oldham Town Centre.

Today we offer an extensive range of qualifications in a variety of curriculum areas including Digital & Creative, Performing Arts & Media, Financial & Professional Services, Sport, Travel & Uniformed Public Services, Construction & the Built Environment, Caring Professions and Retail & Commercial.

Alongside the Further Education base, we also provide the University Campus Oldham providing Higher Education to Post-Graduate level across a wide range of subjects.

We work closely with employers to provide relevant, high-level skills development and, ultimately highly employable students. Over recent years, we have invested over £22million in our campus and facilities. We are delighted to have three new buildings with state of the art facilities for students to use and enjoy. Each year we are happy to welcome almost 10,000 students across our full and part-time courses.

Values and Vision Oldham College believes in the value of ambition, courage, responsiveness, integrity, and inclusion. These values provide a solid foundation for students and for staff to develop the knowledge and skill sets to move forward successfully.

The College in Oldham offers exceptional traineeships and apprenticeships allowing students to gain vital work experience in the areas of the digital arena, construction and the built environment, retail and commercial industry, sport, travel and public services as well as the performing arts and media.

We offer excellent training and development opportunities for colleagues including our newly developed Teaching for Distinction programme for teaching staff.
