Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and passionate English Language and Literature Teacher to join our team, teaching both the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) within the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. This role is an exciting opportunity to inspire students to explore the richness of language and literature, develop critical thinking skills, and express themselves with confidence and creativity. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and inquiry-based lessons that prepare students for success in both their academic and personal lives.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Delivery:

  • Teach English Language and Literature across both MYP and DP levels, designing lessons that align with IB frameworks and standards.
  • Encourage critical analysis of literary and non-literary texts, fostering an appreciation for diverse perspectives and cultures.


2. Skill Development:

  • Support students in developing strong communication skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  • Guide DP students in mastering essay writing, textual analysis, and exam preparation for Language and Literature courses.


3. Assessment and Feedback:

  • Develop and implement formative and summative assessments that align with IB criteria, providing constructive feedback to promote growth.
  • Track and report on student progress, ensuring each learner is supported in achieving their potential.


4. Student Engagement:

  • Foster a love of reading and learning by introducing students to a variety of texts, including classics, contemporary works, and global literature.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages discussion, collaboration, and independent inquiry.


5. Collaboration and Professional Development:

  • Work closely with colleagues across the IB continuum to ensure consistency and progression in the curriculum.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated with best practices in IB education and English teaching.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in English Literature, English Education, or a related field.
  • Teaching certification and/or qualifications.
  • Proven experience teaching English Language and Literature at secondary school level, with a strong understanding of IB philosophy and frameworks.
  • Experience with DP Internal Assessments, Extended Essay supervision, and MYP Personal Projects is beneficial.


Key Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of literary analysis, critical thinking, and creative writing pedagogy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and engage students.
  • Flexibility and creativity in lesson planning, catering to the diverse needs of learners.
  • Commitment to the IB mission, emphasizing holistic education, intercultural understanding, and lifelong learning.
