Job overview

Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.

As an IT Technician, your duties will include providing front line technical support to users, installing equipment, carrying out repairs and helping to maintain network integrity. You will have an IT qualification at level 3 (A level or equivalent) with a good working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Office applications. Alongside this you will be familiar with PC desktop and laptop hardware. Critically, you will have excellent interpersonal skills and a helpful personality. This is a full-time permanent opportunity for someone to join the team and obtain a wide breadth of skills and experience within IT support.

The team of five staff in our IT Services Department works hard to support both students and staff, ensuring the provision of a high-quality IT network. This includes more than 2400 PCs/laptops and 120 servers covering more than 25 buildings at the both of our campuses. Our PCs all run Windows 10, whilst the servers run a mixture of VMware, Microsoft Server, and Linux OSs. The team is exceptionally responsive to customer needs, providing an excellent level of service.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a variety of IT support tasks in a large College environment.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer any remote working or hybrid arrangement as we are a front-facing service for the staff of the College.

Our staff are at the heart of what we do at the College, our motto is ‘Counting in ones’ which applies to staff as well as the students. We offer special leave for various special occasions, support from the Hub, staff-run groups, staff choir, Monday night football, regular staff forums, an inclusive, supportive and kind culture, no expectations to answer emails out of hours (with an automated message to alert the sender), lunch provided at all lunchtime meetings, ‘5 days of Christmas’ treats, end of term meals and activities and bike and computer loans to name but a few of our initiatives.

Closing date: 09:00 Friday 2 August 2024

Interview date: Wednesday 7 August 2024

We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. To that end, a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure will be required in the event of an individual being offered a position within our College. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding and Prevent training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.
