Job overview

About

They are an award-winning London-based tuition agency – who won the Tuition Business of the Year award in the 2022 National Tutoring Awards arranged by The Tutors’ Association (runner-up in 2023). They are also an accredited National Tutoring Programme (NTP) Tuition Partner.

They offer a more nurturing approach and help students with special educational needs (SEN) and those lacking confidence or motivation. Their heart-based approach – the ‘Bright Heart Approach’ – involves meeting the whole person from their unique perspective with warmth to build trust, self-esteem and self-belief, before building on academic abilities.

They are committed to providing the best possible care to its students and vulnerable adults and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

The role

Their tuition agency (an employment business) seeks experienced  QTS Tutors with excellent written and spoken English who can tutor KS3 core subjects - experience working with students with ASC strongly desired. Tutors must be available to tutor in Ashtead.

They strongly prefer tutors with good availability for in-person tutoring (and can offer many hours of tutoring, including during the daytime).

Students typically receive tuition in their homes (one-to-one) with a parent or guardian present or at school through the NTP (small groups up to 1:6). Successful candidates will be provided with further information and guidelines on their approach and relevant training for working with SEN students.

Key qualities they look for in their tutors include:

  • Passion for teaching their subjects of expertise
  • Ability to provide engaging and informative lessons that motivate students
  • Ability to create bespoke lessons according to the student’s needs
  • Caring, patient and empathetic
  • Professional and diligent with a strong commitment to safeguarding

Main areas they serve (in-person):

  • South West London (Kingston upon Thames, Merton, Richmond upon Thames, Sutton and Wandsworth)
  • South London (Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark, Greenwich)
  • Central London (Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster)
  • West London (Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow)
  • North West London
  • Barking
  • Surrey (Epsom & Ewell)

Benefits of the role

You will be working as a self-employed, part-time tutor, so you can choose which clients/students you wish to provide tuition to. Based on client demand, they are ideally looking for tutors who are looking to tutor at least 12 hours per week (and have good opportunities for those wishing to tutor many hours each week). They provide their tutors with opportunities for professional development, including the potential for an employment contract if of interest.

In addition, they offer the right candidate:

  • A £5 per journey travel contribution (in addition to the advertised pay rate)
  • A respectful working environment for tutors
  • On-going training and support from experienced education professionals
  • Access to comprehensive CPD and upskilling opportunities through TES Develop

Key qualifications

All candidates must have the right to work in the UK and a current Enhanced DBS certificate (with a check of the children’s barred list) before commencing any tutoring assignments (we can apply on behalf of a candidate if not currently held). Candidates must also provide 2 relevant professional references and a parent reference. Candidates who have lived / worked overseas in the last 5 years will also need to provide certain overseas checks, including a police certificate.

Please review the safer recruitment policy on their website for further details.

In addition, candidates should have:

  • At least 12 months of relevant tutoring and/or teaching experience in the UK
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Strong subject knowledge in their tuition subject(s)
  • University qualification or studying towards one and A-levels
  • Passion for teaching and their tuition subject(s)

Safeguarding and safer recruitment

They have a moral and legal obligation to ensure that, when given responsibility for young people and vulnerable adults, they are treated with the highest possible standard of care.

As disclosed in their safer recruitment policy (see their website), they aim to ensure that unsuitable candidates are deterred from applying to work with our students, and should they apply, they will not be successful in their application.

Their recruitment and selection procedures follow an equal opportunities policy. They aim to hire the most suitable candidates, with all applicants receiving fair and equitable treatment during the recruitment process.

Successful candidates will be required to sign their Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy (available on our website) and complete safeguarding induction and annual refresher training.
