Atlantic Academy, located on the beautiful island of Portland, Dorset, is looking for an outstanding Lead Practitioner of Maths to join our team and make a real impact on teaching and learning across the school.

About Atlantic Academy:

Located on the stunning Jurassic Coast, Atlantic Academy is an all-through school serving the community of Portland, known for its breathtaking coastal views and rich maritime history. Portland offers a peaceful yet inspiring environment with easy access to outdoor activities and the nearby town of Weymouth. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast or simply looking for a tranquil place to live and work, Portland is an excellent choice.

At Atlantic Academy, we pride ourselves on providing a high-quality education, promoting student success, and supporting staff in their professional growth. This is a school where you’ll feel valued, supported, and empowered to deliver exceptional results.

The Role:

As a Lead Practitioner of Maths, you will not only deliver outstanding lessons but also work closely with colleagues across the school to raise the quality of Maths teaching. You will be a key member of the teaching staff, leading by example and providing coaching and mentoring to colleagues to enhance their practice.

This is an ideal role for a skilled classroom practitioner who wants to have an impact beyond their own classroom and is committed to driving up standards across the department and wider school. You will work collaboratively with the Director of Maths, as well as the wider leadership team, to innovate and develop effective teaching strategies.

Why Work at Atlantic Academy?

At Atlantic, we believe that happy, supported staff are key to a successful school. Our wellbeing-focused approach includes:

  • Centralised Detentions and Behaviour Systems: We manage behaviour consistently across the school, allowing teachers to focus on teaching and learning without the burden of overseeing detentions or managing persistent disruptions.
  • Streamlined Homework Systems: With centrally managed homework policies, you can concentrate on high-quality teaching while ensuring students meet their expectations.
  • Professional Growth: As a Lead Practitioner, you will benefit from our commitment to career progression. Whether you're looking to move into senior leadership or refine your coaching and mentoring skills, we will support your development with clear pathways for growth.
  • Staff Wellbeing: We recognise that wellbeing is crucial to success.
  • High-Quality Facilities: You will be working in a well-resourced department, with access to on-site parking and use of our fully equipped fitness suite.
  • Disruption-Free Learning: With a clear expectation of disruption-free learning and high SLT visibility, you will teach in a calm and purposeful environment.

What We Offer:

  • A key leadership role in developing and improving Maths teaching across the school.
  • A strong and supportive Maths department with access to excellent resources.
  • A positive and collaborative working environment where your contribution will be valued.
  • Opportunities for career progression within an established and growing academy trust.
  • Competitive salary, pension scheme, and wellbeing benefits.

Who Are We Looking For?

We’re looking for an outstanding individual with:

  • Proven experience of driving successful outcomes in the classroom.
  • The ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues alike.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and a passion for raising standards in Maths.
  • Strong communication skills and the desire to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and the ambition to take on new challenges.
