Job overview

Thank you for your interest in the post of Lead Science Technician.

We are a Trust of nine schools, all based in South-East London. Whilst each of our schools maintains its individuality, we share a common mission: to ensure that every single child and young person in our care is successful at school so that they can flourish and be successful in their lives.

Hatcham College is a wonderful school in which students develop into young adults, with all the choices that their education has provided them. Academic achievement is our core purpose, but no less important is the development of characteristics and values that enable Hatcham alumni to reach their full potential and then go out into the world to effect positive change.

We want the best people to join our Haberdashers’ community and we are committed to a diverse and inclusive student and staff body.

The Senior Science Technician (SST) will support the practical and technical aspects of the science curriculum by preparing, providing, maintaining, organising and managing the resources required for healthy, safe and secure, exciting practical activities to be carried out by staff and students.

As the Lead Science Technician you will be responsible for the line management of the technicians working in Science and their deployment within the Department. You will be responsible for training your team in aspects of Laboratory Safety.

The post holder has overall responsibility for establishing the provision of a laboratory service in Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

The SST consults the Head of Science on the purchase of major pieces of equipment and uses their own initiative should establish and consequently maintain a system of stock control for chemicals and consumables.

We look forward to hearing from you if you have the drive, skills and enthusiasm to make a real impact at Hatcham College.

Equality and Diversity:

We recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce. We are committed to eradicating discrimination in the workplace, becoming an employer of choice, for all staff to believe that they have a voice and be empowered to make a difference.

Safeguarding

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. This post falls within the scope of regulated activity. Appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS with list checks (and other relevant checks.) It is an offence to apply for the role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity with children.
