Leader of Early English Learning Support

St Columba’s Catholic Boys’ School are looking to appoint an able, highly motivated, enthusiastic and innovative Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our supportive, passionate and dedicated team of professionals and lead the planning, implementation and impact evaluation of the school’s Systematic Synthetic Phonics Programme and other targeted Literacy Provisions. This role is to support the development of the reading and writing skills of students who are currently working below their peers in these vital skills.

We are recruiting for a proactive and dedicated Literacy Intervention Teaching Assistant to work with students who need support to fill gaps in their literacy and reading. The post holder will be required to support learning, in classrooms and through interventions which take place outside of the main teaching area with small groups or one to one, as required. The successful candidate will have an understanding of teaching English or Literacy and experience working with young people in a school or similar setting. Applications are invited from those who already hold or can demonstrate a willingness to study for appropriate qualifications and certification in delivering systematic synthetic phonics programmes like Little Wandle and other literacy support packages such as Lexia Power Up. The ideal candidate will have successful experience of supporting young people with difficulties with reading and writing.  Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the impact these poor literacy skills have on learning and emotional wellbeing,

 Candidates will be able to demonstrate how they are able to work on their own initiative as an individual and contribute to a team as well as the ability to work under pressure whilst remaining calm.
