Job overview

We are looking for someone who has the desire to support our Academy in ensuring our pupils reach their potential within our Creative Arts department. You will be creative, dynamic, highly resilient and motivated with a willingness to uphold our high expectations to ‘Support Young People to be Independent, Successful and Confident Adults’.

Longspee Secondary is a Specialist Provision for young people with SEMH needs and autism. We offer a rich and high-quality learning experience for our students, with a relentless and positive focus upon Happy, Safe, Progress to help ensure that our students can build and achieve a successful adult life.

As the Creative Arts Learning Mentor, you will deliver the creative arts curriculum, alongside bespoke programmes to support the needs of all students.

Additional activities include supporting student learning through small group work, 1:1 interventions as well as covering providing class cover during absences.

We are looking for candidates who are passionate and ambitious with a drive and commitment to improve the life chances of our young people. You will have a dynamic, exceptional and creative approach to building relationships, and be able to deliver learning in a way that benefits all students.

We are a Specialist Secondary Academy (11-16) for autistic children who also can present with SEMH needs. We enable and empower our students in a caring learning environment, supporting them to learn and flourish on their journey to adulthood.

With approximately 55 students across 9 classes, we want the whole-school community to be Happy to come to school, be Safe and eager to learn, and to make the best levels of Progress on their journey toward adulthood. All students are typically taught in class sizes of 6 or 7, with a high staff to pupil ratio, to support the removal of any barriers to learning.

During our learning day we focus upon supporting and nurturing every individual using a calm and consistent therapeutic approach which enables our students to develop core skills, knowledge and understanding so that they may achieve their aspirations, through qualifications, experiences and enjoyment. At Longspee Secondary we use a wide range of resources and teaching methods to engage our students, with a particular focus given to the development of key skills in English and Maths, improved levels of attention and concentration, social skill, and emotional health development, alongside building positive strategies for well-being and self-regulation. To enable progress, happiness and safety, specialist teaching and learning support staff are on hand to support in the development of emotional wellbeing and attitudes to learning, helping the students to form positive relationships with themselves, their peers, all staff and the wider community.
