Loughborough Amherst School (LAS) is an independent Catholic day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 4 to 18. Originally Our Lady’s Convent School, the School was founded in 1850 by the Rosminian Order of the Sisters of Providence.  In 2015, the School became part of the Loughborough Schools Foundation and was renamed 'Loughborough Amherst School' when it became fully coeducational in 2019.  In the same year, Amherst welcomed its first boarders as part of its elite tennis programme, in partnership with Loughborough University National Tennis Academy (LUNTA).

Loughborough Amherst School is a member of The Catholic Independent Schools' Conference and of The Society of Heads.

At Amherst, we seek to educate the whole person, inspiring our pupils to be curious, kind to one another and believe in themselves. High-quality teaching is complemented by an emphasis on personal development. Our pupils thrive in the context of this close-knit, happy community, and develop into compassionate, resilient and responsible young people.

At the heart of our ethos is the philosophy of our founder, Blessed Antonio Rosmini, who believed that a ‘pupil must be allowed to grow and develop as an integrated human person’. This belief underpins Amherst’s seamless integration of its academic curriculum, personal development programme and co-curricular offer.

Amherst’s through-school, co-educational offer, from Nursery to Sixth Form, allows all pupils to progress here from infancy to young adulthood. Together with our small size, this creates a distinct, family atmosphere that makes Amherst uniquely warm and welcoming.

We are a Catholic school in the truest sense, universal and welcoming of all, regardless of faith background. We seek to nurture in every pupil a concern for the world around them, compassion for others and a deep sense of wonder.

With an excellent pupil-to-teacher ratio, we offer exceptionally high levels of individual support, giving every child the opportunity to realise their goals. As one of four schools within the Loughborough Schools Foundation, we also enjoy the significant benefits of cross-foundation collaboration and outstanding facilities.

The School is located in the centre of Loughborough on a 10 acre, self-contained campus.  The original convent buildings are Gothic revival, forming a cloister quadrangle with a large chapel to the west designed by renowned architect, Charles Hansom.

The market town of Loughborough contains one of the 'Top Ten' UK universities. Loughborough is situated at the edge of the Charnwood Forest and there is easy access to beautiful countryside for walking. Loughborough is 3 miles from the M1, Leicester and Nottingham are only 30 and 40 minutes' drive and there is a direct rail service to London St Pancras International taking from 90 minutes.
