Job overview
Staffordshire University Academy is delighted to advertise an exciting apprenticeship opportunity within our maths department.
The successful candidate will participate in the new University of Staffordshire pilot apprenticeship programme which offers support from both our own highly skilled maths team, and the university mentors.
On successful completion of study, you will receive the following award: BA (Hons) Secondary Mathematics Teacher Degree Apprenticeship.
The post will provide the successful candidate with the chance to develop their knowledge and skills over a four-year period via a blended ‘hands on’ classroom-based timetable and university CPD.
Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals who share our academy mission to provide meaningful life-chances for our students.
During the 4-year programme, you will develop your knowledge of the mathematics curriculum as well as subject-specific pedagogy.
You will learn about the professional skills and strategies needed to become a confident and successful teacher across KS3 and KS4.
An average day as an apprentice will change over the course of the four-year programme of study. You will have ample, exciting opportunities to work with experienced colleagues, KS3 and 4 students, and other external professionals. There will be a balance of observing experienced teachers, assisting in lessons, team-teaching, whole class teaching and University development days.
In the first year, the apprentice will gain experience of the classroom within a primarily support-based role for two days per week. The remaining days will be spent studying the pedagogy of teaching on the University of Staffordshire campus. University days are designed to support the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to meet the apprenticeship standards.
In year 2, you will begin to deliver lessons (or parts of lessons) whilst also continuing your support-role and university studies.
In year 3 and 4, the time you spend in the classroom is increased to enable you to develop your own style as a teacher. Further details of the yearly requirements can be found via the University of Staffordshire website.
