Specific Responsibilities

 

Job Summary

ICS is seeking an experienced, passionate, and dedicated MYP Science and IB DP Biology Teacher to join our Secondary School faculty. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to collaborative teaching and a strong understanding of the IB curriculum, with the potential to teach Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) at the DP level. This is a full-time, renewable contract position with a generous salary and benefits package, commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.


Teaching and Learning

  • Teach MYP Science and DP Biology, with potential assignments in DP Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS).
  • Exhibit effective classroom management and an understanding of students' academic, social, and emotional needs.
  • Integrate technology effectively to enhance student learning.
  • Design learning activities that challenge and meet the diverse needs of students.


Assessment and Reporting

  • Conduct formative and summative assessments to support continuous learning, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Engage in Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences to discuss student progress.
  • Proactively communicate with parents regarding students’ learning and achievements.
  • Record and report student progress in line with school policies.


Curriculum development

  • Plan and maintain up-to-date MYP and DP curriculum units.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Department and IB Coordinators to meet programme requirements.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary curriculum projects.
  • Supervise student Personal Projects and Extended Essays as required.


Social and Emotional Support

  • Support the social and emotional well-being of students as a teacher and tutor.
  • Lead the Personal Development Programme for assigned tutor groups.
  • Inform the Secondary Pastoral Leadership Team promptly about concerns related to student welfare, achievement, and behavior.
  • Participate in student recognition processes, including assemblies and award ceremonies.


Collaborative Culture

  • Actively engage in team and Secondary School meetings, contributing to a positive collaborative culture.
  • Adhere to deadlines and assist with class cover and exam administration as needed.
  • Participate in Extra-Curricular Activities, including the field trip programme, to enrich the student experience.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Biology or a related field, with a valid teaching qualification for Secondary Science.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant Secondary School teaching experience, with preference given to experience in international schools.
  • Knowledge of IB: Familiarity with the IB Diploma and Middle Years Programmes.
  • Language: Excellent English communication skills.
  • Classroom Management: Proven skills in managing a diverse classroom environment.
  • Technology: Competence in using technology for learning and information management.
  • Personal Attributes: Adaptive, imaginative, ambitious, collaborative, student-centered, motivated, research-focused, empathetic, and mission-driven.

The ICS Inter-Community School, situated in Zürich, is a mainstream, mixed gender, all-through school located in Zurich. Established in 1960, the ICS now has over 800 students from 55 nationalities.

At the Primary School level The Inter-Community School covers the following subjects; Mathematics, Reading and Writing, The Arts, and Social Studies,

At the Middle and Secondary School levels, students of the Inter-Community School study English, German, Sciences, Mathematics, French, Spanish, Performing Arts, Design, and Physical Education.
