Job overview

The school is seeking a professional and motivated teacher who will assume responsibility for the planning and delivery of the curriculum for a Nursery class from January until the end of the academic year. Candidates will be confident and proficient in planning and teaching lessons and in designing other learning activities appropriate to the needs of the pupils, in consultation with parallel teachers. In addition, they will be required to set and maintain high educational and moral standards, undertake other appropriate duties as may be required, participate in and support the school in all its many and varied activities.

As a teacher at Newland House School, you will support the school’s aim in ensuring that we provide a curriculum that is broad and balanced, covering the academic, artistic and physical elements that are crucial for the development of the whole child. We set high standards of learning for all the children in a caring and supportive environment and you will help to promote our ethos in encouraging enquiring minds and building pupil’s strengths, interests and experiences.

The teacher will work as a member of a team at our Pre-Prep, along with other class teachers and teaching assistants, and will report to the Head of EYFS. You should have knowledge and experience of teaching in EYFS. We pride ourselves in fostering excellent home/school relationships with parents and candidates will be expected to have strong communication skills.

The post merits a salary commensurate with the role and the successful applicant's relevant experience.

Newland House School is a successful, flourishing co-educational independent day school for children from 4 to 13 years, based in Twickenham in South West London.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview and to be observed teaching a lesson in week commencing 16th September.

Newland House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The safeguarding responsibilities of the post include:

§ To be the class teacher for an assigned Nursery class.

§ To liaise with parents.

§ To promote the general progress and well-being of individual pupils.

§ Encourage pupils’ participation in other aspects of school life.

§ To be vigilant in preventing bullying and work swiftly to resolve incidents of bullying, following the school’s Anti-Bullying Policy.

§ To promote and safeguard the welfare of the pupils.

§ To maintain a constant awareness of all issues relating to child protection.

§ To alert staff members to problems experienced by pupils and those concerned with the welfare of individual pupils after consultation with the appropriate staff.

This role amounts to regulated activity with children.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children."

Newland House is a very special school.  You only have to walk through the front door to experience its wonderfully friendly atmosphere and the great sense of purpose that symbolises so much of what is done here. Set in three buildings, it boasts a newly established Nursery, a Pre-Prep in a new, stylish and ergonomic building and a Prep which mixes the modern and traditional.

It is proud of its achievements, not only because children regularly win scholarships to some of the best independent senior schools in the country, but because their awards are not just academic but are for music, sport, art and all round ability too.

The school’s strength lies in the breadth of education it provides.  Every child has the ability to succeed.  Teachers find the areas in which they show promise and nurture them.

The sense of family and community and the mutual support between teachers and pupils is an especially strong feature of the school.  Newland House School wants its children to be happy and self –confident, as well as having the desire to care for and respect others too.
