The successful candidate will have a pivotal role in the successful and ambitious teaching of music in Juniors. The ideal candidate will be flexible. They would be able to teach music across these year groups and add to enrichment opportunities within the department. 

It is expected that the candidate will enjoy contributing to the whole life of the school, that they accompany assemblies, lead choirs, direct the Junior School production and be involved in other department activities as and when required.

Objectives 


  • Plan and deliver high-quality music lessons to pupils in the Juniors and promote the highest possible standards of pupil achievement.
  • To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students.
  • To promote high standards of behaviour through the effective teaching of individuals, groups, and classes. 
  • Display commitment to the ethos and success of the school.
  • Actively support school activities where required such as accompanying assemblies, lead choirs and the Junior School production

 

Teaching and Learning: 

  • Teach music across Juniors
  • Deliver learning in accordance with the curriculum, national guidelines and the school’s strategy
  • Plan a varied, balanced and appropriate curriculum which supports the needs of all pupils and ensures all pupils reach their potential.
  • Adapt teaching styles to suit all pupils and provide a supportive learning environment
  • Systematically assess and record pupils’ academic progress, including appropriate target setting, and use the results to inform lesson planning
  • Report on individual pupils’ progress to parents and staff, as required, through reports and parent evenings

 

Participating in Subject Department(s)

  • To take a full and active part in developing the department(s) you work with
  • Plan, provide, and evaluate for pupil progress at the direction of the Curriculum Lead
  • Assist in reviewing the curriculum with the Curriculum Lead
  • Participate in regular Departmental Meetings
  • Take an active role in evaluating and implementing school wide policies and procedures
  • Assist in planning and implementing music trips
  • Attend school day trips and residentials, where required
  • To fully contribute to the co-curricular side of school life, including running an activity after school
  • Ambassador to the school

Crosfields School is a co-educational, independent day school for pupils aged 3 to 16. Located near Reading, Berkshire, it accommodates approximately 625 pupils.

Founded in 1957, the school is now run as a charitable trust under a single governing body.  In 2021 the school created two distinct areas, the Junior School which encompasses all year groups from Nursery to Year 6, and the Senior School for Years 7 to 11.  New for the 2021/22 academic year is a brand new Senior School building which provides an excellent setting for older students as the school extends to 16 and it will enjoy its first cohort of GCSE students in 2023.

Vision and values

First and foremost, the school aims to create an environment where every child is safe, happy and supported. It strives to offer a curriculum that is varied enough to allow every unique individual to discover their talents. Teachers encourage children to put in the effort and be resilient. They hope to give pupils the ability to be independent thinkers who challenge and enquire.

Numeracy and ICT skills are especially good at this school, along with reading.  Creative subjects such as design and technology and art are another focus. The curriculum as a whole gives pupils experience in linguistic, mathematical, scientific, technological and social areas, as well as physical education.  Extra-curricular activities range from golf and fencing to Forest School and chess.  School trips are also organised to broaden pupils’ horizons.
