Job overview

When Alpha Preparatory School opened its doors in 1895, the world was a very different place. We have often spoken to the children attending Alpha to place themselves in the mind-set of a young Victorian child, to consider just how different life in 2023 actually is. Yes, we still teach the fundamentals of the three ‘Rs’ of reading, writing and arithmetic (without the Victorian abacuses of course) but we now have laptops, ipads, interactive whiteboards, electricity throughout and heating without open fires! No, we do not have birch wood canes or chalk boards and easels or slate on which the children would write. What has carried on consistently, however, since the school was founded 129 years ago is that we still hold our school rule, which is to ‘Be kind!’ close to all that we do at Alpha.

Pupils at Alpha are well-above national average, understand their own strengths, and display confidence in themselves and pride in their accomplishments. ISI Report

Pupils are highly articulate and have strong communication skills. They develop high levels of knowledge, skills and understanding across all of their key areas of learning. ISI Report

A Year 6 pupil has said that, “Innovative ideas are created by the staff and our curriculum ignites a hunger for learning, and the potential to achieve. Kindness pervades the school, giving the pupils both the reason and power to show compassion.”

We are seeking to appoint a passionate and highly qualified self-employed peripatetic piano teacher to become a part of our music department at Alpha Preparatory School. Our students have a strong passion for learning instruments; having recently partaken in several music tours abroad. Our students range from very beginners to grade 7.

We are looking for a teacher who can commit to teaching one day a week, preferably a Monday.

The ideal candidate should possess experience in preparing students for ABRSM and Trinity examinations.

Our pupils demonstrate a strong enthusiasm for their music lessons and engage with a diverse repertoire; they are encouraged to participate in various ensembles, accompany fellow students, and regularly showcase their talents in both formal and informal concerts and competitions.
