Hours of work:  35 hours per week x 39 weeks per year (Term time, plus 5 inset days)

We are seeking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Post 16 Pastoral Practitioner to provide pastoral support and administration within the campus sixth form. To work with the Heads of Sixth Form to maximise student achievements and attainment across the college. You must be able to establish excellent relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues, and work well within a team.

The post holder will report to the Heads of Sixth Form, as part of the overall pastoral team managed by the link member of the Senior Management Team. 

Main duties and responsibilities

●       Have a visible presence around school, during breaks and lunchtimes and in tutor groups to reinforce school expectations and standards.

●       To work alongside the Sixth Form Team to ensure full compliance with College dress code.

●       Be responsible for the pastoral care of students, working with tutors to ensure their needs are met and responded to. To include multi agency meetings.

●       To work alongside the Head of Sixth Form to monitor academic progress and co-ordinate interventions, including tracking of weekly assessment and Uplearn.

●       Work alongside the Head of Sixth Form to ensure student participation in all aspects of the wider curriculum programme.

●       Work alongside the Head of Sixth Form to deliver the Next Steps programme which sees students successfully transition from Year 11 into Year 12, and Year 13 into adult life.

●       Deliver the post-16 bursary in accordance with Plymouth City Council guidelines.

●       Monitor attendance and welfare of students on work placements / vocational placement.

●       Liaise with, and assist the careers team with the delivery of programme opportunities.

●       To monitor attendance and effective use of Independent Study periods.

●       To organise the Sixth Form specific areas of the College to ensure they are fully equipped.

●       To carry out cover when required by the college.

●       To support year assemblies as relevant and develop a year group ethos with the Head of Year.

●       To actively supervise students whilst on duty during the school day.

●       To liaise with parents/carers, staff, students and other stakeholders as needed in a timely and professional manner in relation to all aspects of students’ pastoral care. 

●       To ensure students feel safe in school and follow school safeguarding policies and processes required.

● To deputise for the Head of Sixth Form in their absence.

●       Manage the tracking system for UCAS applications.

●       Be responsible for monitoring the overall attendance of all Sixth Form students and holding meetings with parents when there is a need to discuss attendance / punctuality issues.

●       Advise tutors within the specified year group on attendance figures and individual student issues with attendance and punctuality.

●       Monitor attendance and welfare of students on work placements / vocational placement, liaising with placements.

●       To undertake first aid training and once qualified to administer first aid to staff and students as part of a larger First Aid team.

●       To act as a fire warden as required by the School.
