Lead Greenwood Academy to be an exceptional school for the local community

We’re looking for an exceptional leader with vision and passion to guide Greenwood Academy, located in Castle Vale, Birmingham. Join us, together, we'll create a brighter future and make a lasting impact on our community. You will be supported, challenged, and given agency to achieve our ambitious goal - what we call 490 - by 2028. 490 means that we want 90% of our GCSE pupils to be scoring grade 4 or above in English and maths, to be secure readers for their age, to reach the expected standard in the key stage 1 phonics check, and to meet the expected standard in reading, writing and maths at key stage 2.

This role is perfect for you if:

  • You are passionate about education and driven to achieve exceptional outcomes.
  • You possess a clear vision for the future of our school and the ability to inspire others to share that vision.
  • You are a champion of high standards and believe in the power of excellent teaching, learning, and curriculum development.

This is a challenging but rewarding position. As our leader, you will:

  • Guide our school community in living and breathing the Lift maxims.
  • Foster a culture of excellence that empowers both students and staff.
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative teaching and learning strategies.

About Lift Schools

We are Lift Schools, a diverse and inclusive network of schools with a clear mission to provide an excellent education to every child in every classroom, every day. And we do this across each of our 57 schools.

We believe every child deserves the best education possible, regardless of background, geography or ability. We want to see them fulfil their potential – at school and beyond. To do this, we need exceptional leaders.

How you’ll be supported

We believe that talent drives performance. As a leader at Lift Schools, you’ll have the backing of a national network, work closely with the schools in your region, and benefit from a tailored programme designed to help you grow and succeed.

We will give you the space and agency to champion your own development, underpinned by a dedicated package for learning and development. If successful, you will receive:

  • An individual development account of up to £100,000 over five years.
  • Experiential learning, including study tours.
  • High support and high challenge from a regional education director.
  • One-to-one ‘anytime’, unlimited frequency executive coaching.
  • Evidence-informed practice.
  • A year-long induction programme.
  • The option of a professional sabbatical after five years.

We’re looking for candidates for Greenwood who are:

  • Self aware: Those who thrive in a high challenge and high support environment, who want the space and agency to develop their leadership skills.
  • Network-minded: Those who believe that the job is not done unless all schools in our network and beyond are serving their communities well.
  • Intellectually curious: Those who have the confidence to work with an evidence-informed approach, with an unrelenting drive to be the best leader they can be.

Whether you’re an existing or aspiring principal, bring your drive to serve young people, your determination to be the best leader, and your dedication to create lasting change for our community. If you want to serve young people, and especially those who experience disadvantage - who aren’t yet getting what they deserve - we’d love to hear from you.

About Greenwood Academy

**Please scroll to the bottom of this page to view our live vacancies**

Greenwood Academy is a vibrant, successful 11-18 Academy situated in the heart of Castle Vale.  We moved into our £20 million new build in September 2017 with world class facilities.  Coupled with this is a highly professional staff and students who are keen to learn.  As a result of being oversubscribed, we are embarking on the next wave of recruitment for the highest calibre of staff who can help us to grow our school community.

So why work at Greenwood Academy?

1. Teaching and Learning

Quality first teaching is at the core of everything we do. To support this, our evidence-based Teaching and Learning vision incorporates Barack Rosenshine’s Principles of Direct Instruction.  Literacy is a significant part of every lesson. Standard written and Spoken English is insisted upon and modelled by all teachers to ensure our students can achieve their potential.

Most importantly, we do not grade observations at Greenwood Academy, we believe that regular, developmental feedback creates a strong, supportive and vibrant culture.

2. Expectations

We have a firm and fair approach to behaviour, systematically supported by senior staff; all pupil detentions are centralised and run by senior staff every day. Teachers are therefore able to prioritise the planning and teaching of their subject.

3. Work-life balance

We are committed to reducing teacher workload and making sure that everything we do has a positive impact on pupil learning. This means we have a slimmed-down marking policy, a centralised knowledge focused homework policy, no parents evenings and a minimal assessment, reporting and data entry cycle.

Ofsted

We are judged to be a 'Good' school and we were last inspected in October 2021. To view all our Ofsted reports please see the link here
