Job overview

Students

The youngest boy will be starting 2nd grade in September.  He is very kind, warm, and affectionate child, who is particularly close to his mother. His preferred learning style involves fun and games, making it essential for the Tutor to blend educational content with engaging, playful activities.

The middle brother will be entering 3rd grade. He enjoys math-related card games, but these do reveal his struggles with addition and subtraction. The young man also enjoys football and other physical activities - incorporating sports and active learning techniques may be beneficial.

The eldest boy is entering 9th grade.  He has a keen interest in economics and politics. He is a lovely and observant child who requires a patient and understanding Tutor to help build a solid academic foundation as he starts the new school year.

Role of the Tutor

The Tutor will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive, intensive French language instruction tailored to the needs of each child. This includes leveraging immersive and engaging methods to enhance the children's language skills. The Tutor must create a learning environment that blends educational content with fun, engaging activities, especially for the younger children who thrive on interactive and playful learning experiences.  The Tutor must be patient and creative, finding ways to make learning feel like a natural part of their daily routine, either in a structured or informal setting.

The Tutor must be adaptable and able to teach in various environments, as the role requires travel with the family to locations such as Paris, Qatar, and Dubai. The ability to create a consistent and stimulating educational experience across these diverse environments is essential.

The Tutor should be sporty and able to engage the children in various physical activities, incorporating these into their overall learning experience. This approach will help balance their academic work with physical exercise, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

Cultural immersion will also be key. By utilizing the family’s travel schedule, the Tutor can provide culturally rich and educational experiences that enhance the children’s global awareness and understanding.

The Tutor must be fluent in French and preferably have experience in the American educational system with familiarity in all high school subjects which they can weave into their French language lessons. This role demands a combination of professional expertise, creativity, and a nurturing attitude to support the children’s academic growth and well-being.

In addition to the summer job, there is an opportunity for a long-term position based in Djibouti, starting around September 1st. This role involves providing ongoing academic support for the three children. Candidates interested in the long-term position are encouraged to apply for both jobs.

Hours and Holidays, Accommodation and Travel

The Tutor will work an average 40-hour week, with the understanding that they must accommodate the family’s extensive travel and activity schedule. They must be able to adapt their working hours around the daily rhythms dictated by the family's travel and educational activities.

The Tutor will be entitled to two consecutive days off per week, normally at the weekend, but they must be flexible regarding the family’s travel plans and other commitments. Due to the short-term nature of this contract, there will be no holiday allowance accrued.

The Client will provide accommodation, and will also cover all travel expenses ensuring ease of movement between different teaching environments.

Miscellaneous

The successful candidates will offer more than the minimum requirements of this position and must have been raised in a socially appropriate background. They will be excellent practitioners and good role models: educated and polished, with excellent manners and personal values.

The Tutors must be a fit, healthy and a non-smoker – active and energetic with a love for the outdoors; the kind of person who always makes the most of their environment to enhance teaching and learning opportunities.
