Job overview
The Safety Officer is a key role in the Health, Safety and risk management capability in the School. Working to the Bursar, and with whole-school responsibilities the role would suit someone with the relevant experience and a collaborative approach to support staff in the safe delivery of innovative, progressive education. The School has a strong and proactive health, safety and risk management culture, and has regularly received outstanding assessments at external audits. So, the selected candidate will be expected to take forward the work of the current incumbent and ensure that the School meets all legal obligations in this expanding aspect of modern school life. This will require working closely with senior managers and all staff to support them in their work and to facilitate the development of the School’s health and safety agenda.
The School is big and busy and the curriculum day involves a range of events and activities, some of which are regularly away from the main site. A number of residential trips are normally offered, both in the United Kingdom and abroad. Added to this are the normal curriculum activities including engineering, science, art and sports and all involve a level of carefully managed risk. As does the business of providing support services, on-site contractor work and delivering a range of projects. From a bigger picture point of view, the school takes a very proactive approach to strategic and operational risk management using a variety of tools. Proactive risk management following best practice in the sector and more broadly will therefore be a key aspect of the successful candidate’s portfolio.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and the expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Before appointment to any role in the school, checks including an enhanced DBS check and workplace references will be undertaken in accordance with current statutory guidance.
The Foundation is committed to fostering an inclusive culture that promotes values and diversity and celebrates the diverse voice of our community.
Guidance on the recruitment process and further information, including how we will use your personal data, the privacy notice for job applicant and our policy on employment of ex-offenders, can be found on our website.
