Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Receptionist to join Harrodian from 3rd January 2025. This is a key role for the School and we are looking for a confident, friendly, professional individual who can offer a welcoming and professional first point of contact for parents, pupils, staff and visitors, as well as for telephone callers.

The successful candidate will manage all visitor access around the School, ensuring that safeguarding procedures are followed and necessary supporting documentation recorded and maintained. They will liaise with departments across the School regarding pupil attendance and absence, lost property, packed lunches for trips, and a whole variety of other every day and occasional school matters!  They will also undertake general administrative duties to support the HR, Admissions and Administration departments, for example helping to run interview and new staff Induction days, prospective parent and pupil days, Friends of Harrodian events, etc.

Applicants should have previous experience of working in a fast-paced, front-line, customer-facing role. They should have a proven track record of delivering a consistent level of high-quality customer service and will be able to consistently represent the School in a positive manner. It goes without saying that they will be well-presented, articulate and have an excellent telephone manner and communication skills. They will be able to prioritise tasks efficiently and calmly in a busy, vibrant environment. Able to work independently as well as being a true team player, previous experience of working in a school environment would be highly advantageous, as would experience of using a school management information system (we use SIMs and Edulink).

Working days/hours

  • Mondays to Fridays during term time, plus 9 days in the school holidays, to include 5 staff and Inset days, one day prior to the start of each term and one day at the end of the Summer Term, i.e. a total of 36 weeks.
  • Working hours will be 07:45 to 17:00, totaling 43.75 hours per week
  • There is an expectation that the postholder will monitor the Reception email inbox regularly, checking for and dealing with those emails that require attention, even during school holidays.

Holidays

  • The post-holder is entitled to school holidays, less 9 days in the school holidays, plus Bank Holidays;
  • Annual leave must be taken during school holidays. School term and holiday dates are published annually. Any variances must be agreed with the Headteacher.

The actual gross annual salary based on hours and weeks worked will be between £24,975 and £29,970 depending on qualifications and experience. Salary is paid in equal installments over 12 months.
