Tes is supporting the appointment of a SENCo to join a school based in Barking.

Salary: Unqualified £47,064 - £50,416 per annum (Salary Band 4.03 )

Qualified £54,060- £56,710 per annum (Salary Band 3.01)

Contract: Permanent, Term time only

The Role - SENCo

The school are seeking an experienced and qualified SENCo to lead on the school’s priorities to support each pupil reach their full potential. You will work with their clinical and inclusion teams to develop strategies for individual pupils and across the whole school, making sure appropriate resources are in place to deliver interventions. 

They also welcome experienced applicants who may not have completed their SENCo qualification at this stage.

The school delivers bespoke learning and therapeutic interventions to neurodiverse pupils within community based settings, who have a range of complex needs, and who demonstrate behaviours linked to tier 3 / 4 traumas. Pupils are encouraged to find and express their creativity and provided opportunities to achieve awards, alongside traditional subjects, as they move from dependence on others to independence through intensive therapeutic interventions..

Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:  

  • champion of education with similar values to their: Expect the very best from each other; Develop a strong work ethic; Respect and appreciate all difference; Include everyone and exclude no one; Listen to and involve everyone; Never give up on each other!
  • Resilient and robust, role modelling outstanding teaching and professionalism.
  • Be a Qualified Teacher (holding QTS or equivalent) with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience within inclusion or SEN coordination, in SEND, therapeutic or outreach education sector. 
  • Hold or be working towards the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo) or relevant experience. 
  • Experience of driving inclusive education initiatives to support best practice with vulnerable and complex groups.
  • Proven skills in coaching & mentoring.
  • Proactive and innovative, collaborating with team members in other disciplines, whilst also with the ability to work flexibly and independently.
  • Experience of managing neurodiverse children with SEND, including ASC and/or SEMH. 
  • Experience of coaching staff to improve their practice.
