Job overview

We are looking for a SEND Support Specialist to join Targeted Provision on a permanent and remote basis, providing specialist support to our tutors in our mission of supporting the UK’s vulnerable children and young people. 

At Targeted Provision our mission is to raise the standard of educational support offered to vulnerable young people in the UK.

We work with schools and local authorities to provide specialist tutors and mentors for children and young people with additional educational needs.

We also support mentoring and engagement / re-engagement for young people in need of Alternative Provision. We believe that with the right support and role model in their lives, every child can grow in confidence and succeed in learning.

The SEND Support Specialist role

We pride ourselves on providing the best possible social-emotional and educational outcomes for our children and young people. We are seeking SEND Support Specialists to support the tutors working with our learners, keeping the team around the child and ensuring that the provision we are offering to our children and young people follows a trauma-informed and holistic approach. 

Responsibilities:

  • Providing advice, insight and strategies to our tutors on best trauma-informed and holistic practice. 
  • Building and maintaining good supportive working relationships with tutors, parents/carers, and local authority personnel.
  • Offering fortnightly catch ups with every tutor on their current provision.
  • Review Individual Support Plans with tutors where required and assisting tutors to write Individual Learning Plans 
  • Regularly review the desired outcomes of the children and young people you are supporting with the team around the child.
  • Review all lesson reports on a weekly basis,identifying where tutors require support to make tuition successful and providing the tutor with advice and resources where needed.
  • Meeting up with tutors to discuss an appropriate approach for the needs of their children and young people.
  • Identifying any safeguarding risks through your touch points with tutors and raising them with the safeguarding team
  • Review and send conclusive reports written by our tutors at the end of every placement
  • Respond to requests from local authorities to attend TAC, PEP, LAC and review meetings.
  • Carrying out Lesson Observations both f2f and online, giving feedback to tutors to continue improving quality of tuition.


You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people. You will be experienced in supporting vulnerable children and young people, familiar with a trauma-informed approach, and have a proven track record of facilitating positive outcomes for learners with a variety of SEND / SEMH needs. 

Essential:

  • Previous experience as a teacher for children and young people with complex needs. 
  • Previous experience supporting vulnerable children and young people in a trauma-informed and holistic manner. 
  • Excellent knowledge of child protection and safeguarding legislation, guidance, and best practice.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload and work under pressure.
  • Previous experience supporting and guiding other teachers / tutors working with vulnerable children and young people.
  • An excellent eye for detail.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and organised, able to work remotely and prioritise own workload. 
  • Ability to balance passion for the cause with diplomacy and empathy when providing feedback to tutors.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable experience teaching at KS3 and KS4 level. 
  • Experience using Airtable, Front or similar CRMs
  • Experience within a small and fast-paced team
