Wakefield is the birthplace of the successful Outwood Grange Family, a Trust that has supported 41 schools across various phases in the North of England. We have nurtured a school community that is welcoming and friendly, where students and staff can make excellent progress together, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

We are excited to offer an opportunity to work as a SENDCo in our department that has proudly achieved the acclaimed Inclusion Quality Mark. This is a full-time, permanent role. The successful candidate will be part of our senior leadership team and required to deliver quality adaptive teaching to a mixed cohort of students. Therefore, UK Qualified Teaching Status is part of our essential criteria.

The Learning Support team includes 20 staff members ranging from Teaching Assistants to SEND Officer, all working together to transform the lives of our students by raising standards and overcoming barriers to learning. This role will lend itself to enable you to feel part of the Outwood family and work with the amazing young people in our setting. As a member of the Outwood family you will experience a number of opportunities to work with stakeholders across the education industry and develop your SEND knowledge through our Trust networking opportunities. Your work environment will be welcoming and you will have access to all the appropriate resources needed for the role.

We put students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success; in this role you will support on the strategic delivery of provisions and deployment of staff. Needless to say, you will need to be driven, proactive, and dedicated. Staff and students alike experience a sense of belonging and we would welcome you to apply if this aligns with your own core principals.

We would welcome you to come and visit our academy so you can see how we 'raise standards and transform lives'. Please contact Holly Benson on h.benson@outwood.com for an informal discussion, or to arrange a visit.

We are an Outstanding rated, 11-18 academy based in the cathedral city of Wakefield, near Leeds.

The Outwood Family was born out of our academy’s success and we are proud that after our last inspection, Ofsted paid tribute to the ‘academy staff and leaders for the way they ensure you get the best education possible.’

We have nurtured a school community that is welcoming and friendly, where students and staff can make excellent progress together, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Gold Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
