Salary Range: CI$73,416- CI$96,336 per annum
The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) has whole school responsibility for the daily operations of the Special Education Needs (SEND) Policy and co-ordination of the provision made for individual children with Special Education Needs, working closely with staff, parents, carers, and other agencies. SENCO is a key member of the school’s senior executive team of the school, sharing responsibility with the Principal for ensuring effective strategic planning, resourcing, leadership and management of all aspects of SEND. The SENCO has assigned whole-school aspects of responsibility including but not limited to, individualized education plans for all Tier 3 students, monitoring the academic achievement of students on the SEND register, a range of literacy and numeracy intervention programmes, behavior for learning initiatives, nurture groups and one-to-one support.
*Required qualifications and experience include the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in special education from a recognized institution as well as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Certification in the National Award for SEND Coordination (NASENCO) qualification.
- 5 years’ post qualification teaching experience, with a demonstrated track record of successful teaching and learning
- Substantial depth and breadth of experience of teaching children with SEND, including the ability to plan and deliver differentiated lessons that accommodate students with a wide range of abilities within the mainstream environment
- Experience of working with multi-agency colleagues to plan and deliver for the needs of students with SEND
- Enthusiasm, creativity, organizational skills and patience when dealing with differing abilities and cultures
- Ability to resolve conflict and a positive approach to behavior management
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to students, parents, colleagues, and other education stakeholders
- Experience of using formative and summative assessment and proven ability to interpret and act on pupil progress data
- Ability to communicate simply and clearly
The remuneration package for the successful candidate is offered without deductions. The Cayman Islands Government provides an additional 12% pension contribution and 100% health insurance coverage for the employee and their dependents.
