The Kathmandu International Study Centre (KISC) is a co-educational school which is BSO and MSA accredited. It comprises a Primary and Secondary School, as well as a Teacher Training establishment, called EQUIP. There are more than 100 students in each of Primary (ages 4-11) and Secondary (ages 11-18), coming from over 20 countries. It is a school with a Christian ethos, flowing out of its mission, vision and values.

Our mission is to provide excellent education, primarily for the international mission community and Nepali school communities, based on KISC values. Through our schools and the EQUIP programme, students and staff are helping to transform children’s lives, as well as making a positive impact on wider Nepali society.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Needs teacher to join our international primary school. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our teaching staff, administration, and families to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in achieving their full potential. This role requires patience, empathy, and a deep understanding of differentiated learning strategies to meet a diverse range of learning needs.

Key Responsibilities

Individualised Education Plans (IEPs):

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualised Education Plans for students with SEND, in collaboration with classroom teachers, parents, and other specialists.
  • Regularly assess and update IEPs to reflect student progress, adjusting goals and strategies as needed.

Instructional Support:

  • Provide specialised teaching and support to students with a range of learning needs, including intellectual, emotional, and physical challenges.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques to engage students, including assistive technology, sensory activities, and hands-on learning.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with classroom teachers to differentiate curriculum and provide in-class support where necessary.
  • Coordinate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to ensure holistic support for students.
  • Act as a resource for teachers, offering guidance on SEND best practices and strategies for inclusion.

Parent Communication:

  • Build strong relationships with families to provide regular feedback on student progress and address any concerns or questions.
  • Conduct parent-teacher meetings to discuss IEPs, progress, and strategies to support learning at home.

Behavioural and Emotional Support:

  • Implement behaviour management plans to create a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Help students develop social and emotional skills, fostering resilience, self-regulation, and independence.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and communication with stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and any relevant legal or educational standards related to SEN.

●      Professional Development:

  • Stay current with SEN education trends, research, and best practices through ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, training, and workshops to support inclusive practices.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field. A master’s degree in Special Education is an asset.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a special needs/SEND role, preferably within an international school setting.
  • Certifications: Relevant SEN certifications, teaching licensure, or credentials (preferred).

Skills:

  •  Strong understanding of various SEN conditions, including ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, and other learning challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using assistive technology and creating differentiated instructional materials.
