Subject Leader – Modern Foreign Languages

Main scale (London Fringe)

Full-time, Permanent

Required for January 2025

TLR 1a (£9,493)

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and inspirational Subject Leader for Modern Foreign Languages who can lead an experienced and committed subject team in a strong academic environment, where languages are highly valued. The successful candidate will be an experienced and skilled classroom practitioner with a track record of innovation and securing excellent outcomes. We offer both French and German from Years 7 to 13. Our newly appointed Assistant Subject Leader is a German specialist and therefore the ability of our new Subject Leader to teach A-Level French is highly desirable. Also, the ability to teach German to at least Key Stage 3 is essential. We welcome applications from current subject leaders/heads of departments looking for a career move, or from strong candidates seeking to progress to middle leadership. Candidates will be in a position to take up the post in January 2025. We can offer an exceptional working environment where staff, as well as students, thrive.

Langley Grammar School is a co-educational 11-18 selective school with academy status, located within easy reach of Langley station and the M4. We have approximately 1280 students, over 370 of whom are in the Sixth Form. The school is heavily over-subscribed and draws students from a wide geographical area and range of backgrounds. Alongside promoting excellent academic outcomes, our school ethos supports students to become confident and well rounded, independent and creative, responsible and caring. Our students are capable, hardworking and a delight to teach. We are a National Teaching School with a record of nationally recognised innovative practice, and an Apple Distinguished School in recognition of our leading-edge use of technology for learning. In recent years major building programmes have included the construction of excellent sports facilities, a distinctive Sixth Form Centre and new classrooms, workshops, laboratories, ICT suites and communal areas. The school was last inspected in 2021 by Ofsted, and was graded outstanding in all categories.

Information packs and application forms are available on request from the school, or can be downloaded from the school website at www.lgs.slough.sch.uk

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including online checks, checks with past employers, and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Applications should be returned by midday on Thursday 10 October 2024 to Mrs. Dionne Cheyne, Head’s PA at vacancies@lgs.slough.sch.uk.

Interviews will be held shortly thereafter. We reserve the right to interview promising candidates prior to the closing date.
