Teacher for the Hearing Impaired- Grand Cayman

Salary Range: CI$57,192- CI$74,772 per annum

The teacher for the hearing impaired will provide specialized services to children with Hearing impairment (HI) by assessing, developing, implementing and monitoring programmes for hearing impaired (HI) students within the Government School System and Early Intervention (EIP) setting.  To provide a stimulating and active learning environment that promotes students physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, cultural, creative and moral development and maximizes the achievement of all students. The post holder will work as a specialist teacher within the Student Services Team which will involve visiting children in a variety of settings (e.g. Homes, pre-schools and government schools in Grand Cayman).

*Required qualifications and experience include the following: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject from a recognized institution
  • Formal teacher training/qualification as specified in the Department of Education Services policy on Teacher Qualifications, with an emphasis on teaching the hearing impaired
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar teaching role
  • The post holder must be able to articulate clearly and communicate both orally and in written form to parents, educators and other professionals
  • The post holder should have administrative skills that enable him/her to perform duties in developing a budget to complete annual equipment orders, providing or attending training and workshops
  • The post holder must have competent with a range of IT applications including Microsoft Office and preferably relevant reporting software 
  • The post holder should be confident working independently and as a member of a MDT
  • The post holder should have experience managing a large caseload and prioritizing initial consultations and therapy
  • A warm and open personality is important, and the post holder must have the ability to build strong relationships with students, set clear limits and model respectful interaction
  • A team player with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students and parents
  • High levels of confidentiality

The remuneration package for the successful candidate is offered without deductions. The Cayman Islands Government provides an additional 12% pension contribution and 100% health insurance coverage for the employee and their dependents.
