Job overview

Hours: Part-time (0.68)

Due to personal circumstances, we have a vacancy for a part-time Classics teacher, starting in January 2025.

The role:

We are seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of Classics to work in our dynamic and creative school, which has exceptional academic results. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to join our thriving and experienced team. The ability to teach Ancient Greek is desirable but not absolutely necessary.

Latin and Ancient Greek are very much alive at OHS: the department offers a colourful and vigorous introduction to the Classical world, encompassing both language and culture, reinforcing both with lectures, visits and performances.

Every girl in the school learns Latin for the first two years (Years 7 & 8) with the option of a combined Greek and Latin course in the second year. Latin GCSE is an option chosen by many girls since they perceive it as both rewarding in itself and excellent as the foundation for numerous courses of study. To study Greek is to become part of a group of enthusiasts: the number of students is relatively small but the rewards of this fascinating subject are great. Numbers are very good at A Level and we have an excellent record of Oxbridge success, with 10 students gaining places at Oxford or Cambridge in the last 8 years.

Year on year our students achieve excellent results: in 2023, 82% of students achieved 9/8 in Latin GCSE with 80% achieving 9/8 in Greek GCSE. At A Level, results were equally impressive: 50% of students achieved A*/A in Latin and 67% achieving A*/A in Greek.

  • Interest free loans for training, computer purchase loans and travel season ticket loans

Closing date: 4th July 2024.

Interviews: Week commencing 8th July 2024.

We are committed to the safeguarding of children and child protection screening will apply to this post.
